CHP - Arlington County...you suck!!

I applied for my concealed permit on 9-28-10. It was months since I heard anything so I called in on day 70ish and asked what was going on. Turns out they havent even processed my form yet for a permit. They let me know I could come in and receive a temp permit yadda yadda...

A couple weeks later I finally received in writting that the application has been submitted. Finally 3 days ago I received an email letting me know my permit was ready to be picked up. I now have my permit in hand after 104 days.

Crazy to think it took over 2x longer than it should have. It's kind of sad when you think about it. People just seem to not give a sh*t about anything anymore. My application just sat there collecting dust until I called in. Yeah I could have called in a lot sooner but it wasn't a huge deal that I didn't have the permit in hand. I could have still opened carried.

Im curious to see if anyone has ever heard of a permit taking that long to process?

I applied in Caroline county on 12/10/10. Going on 35 days now. The clerk made it a point to make sure I understood that she had 45 days to get it processed. I have a feeling I will be headed back to the clerk's offfice on day 45 after the mail comes to start prodding. I know of one other in Caroline with CHP, and he applied about 6 weeks before I did. Took him about 21 days to get it. Only difference was he used DD-241 (I think - whatever the military service record is)whereas I used Hunter Education for my training requirement - NOT that it should matter.

You really need to stay on top of these Clerks and on day 45, demand that you get your permit. I make sure to tell all of my students about the 45 day rule.

Do you think it matters at all where you submit it? Cause I have a place in Williamsburg and Herndon. I feel like Herndon will take a year and a half, whereas Williamsburg would a little faster. I hope.

As Proshooter said you have to be right on top of these clerks and the 45 day rule, They work for us not the other way around... Too bad there isn't some kind of monetary fine we could collect for every day over they go......

You guys might consider contacting VCDL if your permits are not issued in 90 days.

Well, I got a letter from the Caroline Sheriff's office stating that my CHP application has been processed and the I have 21 days to go obtain my fingerprints, if I choose to. Based on my buddy's experience, I should have the CHP in hand within a few days.

Is there any reason I should go get my fingerprints, or does it matter?

IMHO only some counties require it and they do it to make the process harder to less people will apply. If you have a choice in your county, I recommend against doing it. YMMV.

I do have a choice, letter states that they will destroy them if I choose not to claim them.

I won't bother unless someone thinks of a reason that I should.

Why in the world would you have to get prints done after your app has been processed?

I can't imagine that you have an option to get your prints done. Seems like they would either say "Come get your prints taken" or they won't say anything. Why would the county say "Come get your prints taken if you want to" ?

If you got a letter requesting prints, I'd have o say that it's a request saying "You can come get your prints taken if you still want to get your CHP"

I wasn't clear. I had my fingerprints taken on the day I applied. The sheriff notified me that my application had been processed and that I can come "claim" my prints, since they are done with them.

Didn't mean to confuse. :bangin:

He already had his prints done. Now that the app is processed, he can go in and get his fingerprint card, if not they will destroy it.

That is how it was for me in Hampton. I had to get fingerprinted. Then when I received my permit, the letter said that they will keep my fingerprint card for 21 days and that I could come pick the fingerprint card up if I wanted. If not, it would be destroyed after the 21 days.

EDIT: Ok, he beat me too it, lol.

Thats another area where we need to get some action in the assembly and do away with the fingerprints entirely.

I took Bruce Jackson's class in Fredericksburg, when I lived in Fairfax. Bruce was very knowledgeable and I learned a lot of very good information. He's on the BOD for VCDL and his permit site is 4permits.com
