If a body were to decide to assemble such a collection, and found himself in possession of the following pistols,
Colt Gold Trophy, Blued
Colt Gold Trophy, Stainless
Colt Commander
Remington R-1
Springfield Armory A-1
Kimber Ultra II Eclipse, Stainless
Dan Wesson Valor
Magnum Research American Eagle
STI Trojan 6
Sig 1911 Elite
RIA Tactical
What should he pursue next to enhance the collection? What (if anything) should be discarded?

Discard? I never throw away a perfectly good firearm
Personally that offers the appearance of a 1911 collector, just my casual observation. If I had such a collection I would think a Colt Service Model Ace (a .22 rimfire) would be worthy of pursuit...

Or you could move upscale and start looking at a Les Baer, Wilson Combat, Rock River Arms (are they still even making these?), etc.
A 460Rowland conversion kit would be a nice pursuit as well.

of what you have which is your favorite?
I have considered getting one myself as my biggest pistol is a 40 and the 1911 is legendary for good reason.
I mean this from a functionality/performance standpoint vs collectablity/value standpoint.
Of course if you need to "discard" something I have a comfy place for it

An actual 1911. Not one of those newfangled 1911A1s.

Noted, in all cases. I don't own all those pistols yet, but I'm well toward the bottom of the list. For instance, I'm thinking the RIA tactical probably needs to be an STI Trojan 6. By "discard", I meant "trade in on some other 1911"; not to sell for mere money, throw away, or give it to a brother-in-law, OK?
I began by doing a little research on the collective wisdom on "best 1911s, and came up with this original list:
Nighthawk Customs 1911
Novak 1911
Les Baer 1911
Wilson Combat 1911
Ed Brown 1911
Gemini Customs 1911
Kimber 1911
Sig 1911
Colt 1911
Para-Ordinance 1911
SVI
STI
Remington
Springfield
I already had Colts, Remington, and Springfield, so Kimber was a natural next step; even before I made my list. Frankly, I don't know whether I'll ever bring myself to part with tyhe money to own the top 4 on that list. There's just too many other guns out there whispering "come hithers" in my ear for me to do that. I'm thinking seriously about an Ed Brown, though.
I didn't know the .50 G.I. existed. I like it! But you see, there I go again - - -going off on some other tangent that results in me wanting something else more than another .45 ACP 1911. Now I'll check out the difference between the Decert Eagle .50AE and the 1911 .50GI.
So many guns..............So little time........... and not nearly enough MONEY!

................. I've decided I don't need one of them as much as I need a Desert Eagle, which fires the .50 AE round. In fact, I'm thinking I'll just shell out an extra $300-$400 and get that gold-plated one; just in case I ever decide to take up pimpin'.
