Well, Zephyp, Vahunter, and I went out again. And again, we got nuthin'. Last time, Vahunter at least saw a couple of bucks (couldn't actually shoot at 'em for safety reasons), but this time none of us three saw anything out there that was legal to shoot. The only deer we did see was at some hamburger place; a doe was running like crazy across the road (the game warden rolled by shortly thereafter, coincidentally). Strange thing is that other hunters in the area were getting shots at something. As Vahunter put it, "it sounded like a war zone."

It seems that there is a "hunting curse" hanging over the head of your token liberal here. Taggure, you still sure you want me coming with you next year?

It was still a good time, though, and educational. Thanks to both Vahunter and SgtBill for the use of their land, and Zephyp for letting me go with him (again). I have also now learned why SgtBill's place is a favored spot for meet 'n' greets; his property is beautiful! I had no idea that lake was that size.

It happens. Last year I didn't get any. This year I have 4 so far (extended antler-less only season starts Monday but I need to eat through my freezer a bit).

Some season's are great and some are a bust. I thought mine was going to be a washout. Days before the season opened I traded the rifle I was to hunt with for the M1A. So had to scramble to zero it and did not get it zeroed right. Had it zeroed on 9 power at 100 yds. had two reticles so only 9 power was right. Shot at one buck and went under him. So I went out and bought a Mossberg Maverick 308, zeroed it and first trip out with it............ 200 yards!

John how come you don't have that deer across the hood of the Charger.

Well Cowboy if you really want to see deer come on down while squirrel season is in and deer season is out.

Well I've down sizes and the Dodge 4x4 and the Charger are both gone! Gone Tacoma now

I've put mine, two at a time, in the trunk of my civic with a tarp.

Don't feel bad Cowboy.... I went hunting over 30 times this year (mostly just dawn til noon, or noon til dusk) and came out with 6 deer. There were at least a dozen trips where I saw nothing but chiggers (worst part of bow season) and squirrels.

Thats not bad. I went out about an even dozen times...mainly morning and evening hunts and dragged 2 out. Ironically I shot the first around 1030 am and the second around 130 pm. The more time spent in the woods the more deer you obviously see.

I still believe in the old bit of wisdom: you generally see the most deer from a stand the first time you hunt from it...kinda hard though to hunt a brand new stand every time you go out...

I use a tree climber. Finding a new tree is easy and the cloth sling style seat is super comfy!

Yes a tree climber is best but you are still generally limited in stands depending on how much area you have available.

Hey last year I broke a 9 (yes that is NINE) year dry spell and I got 5 with a Nice 6 point and the rest Doe's. Needles to say I was a happy camper. Also my son finaly got his first buck last year as well.

This year I got 3 and my freezer is not as full as last year but will do.
All the ones I got this year were in the afternoon hunts from about 1:30 and the latest around 4:30.

I guess once you break the dry spell things start to work out (or maybe you just figure out what you have been doing worng, but who knows) for you.

Spring Gobbler season is just around the corner so I need to start building my new turkey call box's. Got a bunch of new wood to try out for this year.

Oh, I will get one eventually; it's just a matter of time. But it is still kinda funny, though, so might as well have a good laugh.

I've got the Summit Titan - I love it. I've fallen dead asleep quite a few times... usually before the sun comes up, but not always! I've literally got about 40,000 acres to hunt (AP Hill), but so do several hundred other hunters there. I killed 4 of my 6 within 50 yards of each other, 3 in the last week. I found a honey hole and I'll be sticking with it at the beginning of next deer season...
