Yep this is supremely stupid. I would love to have a word with the idiot that thought it would be a good idea.

It is the TSA...I expect nothing less than sheer idiocy from that bureaucracy.

This is accurate, stupid, and far less of a concern than the unnecessary increased risk associated with being forced to unholster and place teh firearm in a bag between EVERY FLIGHT! It is very easy to set a bag down and it is either left inadvertantly or snatched by someone else. It is not very easy to lose or have a holstered firearm taken from you, by force or subterfuge. We are working on that at least.

The day I left qualification, I noticed a gaping hole in the wall at the training center adjacent to the firearm clearing receptacle. I was one of teh first to get these fancy new DeSantis holsters. Someone from the previous class did just what this video depicts on his last official act at the training center whilst "securing" his weapon. FFDO career - 7 minutes!

Here is what shocks me about this whole thing, the TSA never ceases to amaze me with their stupidity!

Bear with me while we follow the flawed logic here:

Cap'n Ken has just completed his pre-flight checklist and is settling into his seat in the cramped cockpit. Besides everything else on his mind (verifying the flight plan, obtaining clearance, startup and pushback procedures, the fact that he is responsible for ALL lives aboard this aircraft, he now needs to recall the combination to this "feel good" lock on the weapon and strap it on.

We have now reached our cruising altitude of 32000 feet. Everything is going smoothly. Cap'n Ken requests a cup of coffee from one of the stewardesses. As stewardess Barbie opens the flight deck door, passenger Mohammed Al Qaida yells "Allah Akbar" and storms the flight deck. Cap'n Ken now has to somehow retrieve the issued weapon in this confined space and be able to accurately place a shot.

In reality, passenger Mohammed has a couple of helpers; passenger Imam Taliban Wannabe, and passenger Mullah Hussein that remain in the cabin to subdue the rest of the passengers (which they do easily since they received a free pass from extended screening procedures, because that would be profiling!)

Now Cap'n Ken needs to make three well placed shots under extreme stress of flying the aircraft and dealing with a takeover situation! - Brilliant!

Now imagine this:

Same situation as above, but the airline is Bubba's Redneck Airways. BRA requires all passengers successfully complete a firearms safety training class, and carry a concealed weapon on the flight.

Cruising altitude is attained, and passengers, Mohammed, Imam, and Mullah initiate the planned takeover. The remaining passengers draw their weapons and efficiently neutralize the threat!

Which is the better security system?

That holster bears the marks of an object designed by committee.

Behold and welcome our new brave new reality of living in the People's Republic of America. Lucky us. In the form of socialism we're seeing foisted upon us here, we get the worst features of communist and socialist societies combined with the mind-numbingly crushing litigiousness of modern America.

This holster is not new with the TSA. As I recall, it was manufactured by Galco after a USSS UD officer's child got ahold of his piece and tragedy ensued, and (again, if memory serves) this was pre-9/11. I remember seeing an ad in a gunzine and thinking, damn that's a bad idea.
