Finally someone is looking at real alternatives for monitoring the boarder.
50km per segment and up to 1 meter resolution. Instead of guarding the whole boarder, you just monitor it and dispatch resources as threats are detected.

Good to see that technology is being used to help fight this problem. It said in the article that it can detect movement above the sensor, but I would have thought that they would have wanted to know about movement below the sensor for Tunnels as well.

It senses vibrations and is capable of doing both. I know you know this is old tech. The only new thing here is the integration and software which automates the search of detected vibrations to ID a jackrabbit or a smuggler.
