Judge for yourself. Does this cop know the law?
Especially in California!

WOW!
If it could only be that straightforward every time - Skidmark wouldn't be tied up in litigation...
down in the posts one guys call the LEO aggressive and confrontational - looks more like businesslike and professional to me, with the LEO becoming more at ease as he was presented the details of the situation. He would be a fool not to be on his toes.

the only people who dislike LEO are those up to no good. I learned a looooong time ago to be respectful to LEO as it was always unpleasant when I wasn't. Be a dick and go to jail. be nice and the will give you back your sword
damn good LOE... semper fi

Interesting observation. Why do you think that is?

I think the cop was great and new the law well. I posted a positive comment on the video and got a surprising response.
Really???? I don't know what's worse. The cop that violated the citizen's rights or the citizen that enjoyed the screwing because he got a glass of wine and some extra K-Y.
I think he was trying to say that the cop should of never stopped the guy in the first place. I didn't comment back because I don't know the law in CA. Is a cop supposed to stop to verify a unloaded gun? What do you guys think of this response? I was kind of taken aback. It looks like how all model LEO encounters with a CA OCer should go to me.

He doesn't KNOW what a BAD encounter is!

Indeed.
Most LEO are suspicious with routine stops simply because of a few bad apples that assault/kill cops or anyone in authority...
Why is it then wrong for a law abiding citizen to be suspicious of an LEO doing a routine stop. After all there are a few bad apple cops that violate rights and wrongfully harass law abiding citizens...current case in point and probably a great example is skidmark...

Seems like a reasonable encounter.
But am I mistaken, or in the course of inspecting the firearm didn't the officer effectively muzzle a dozen or so passing cars?

California is a weird one (like a lot of areas of the country). Open unloaded carry is allowed in lots of different places, open loaded carry is allowed in many unincorporated areas.
Quite a few counties are near "shall issue" for concealed permits, depending on who's Sheriff. I had a good friend who had permits for the county, the city, and the University of California we attended!
Knife carry laws are even better. Used to be (maybe still is), you could carry a HUGE folder in LA (ala CUDA MAXX) as long as it WAS concealed.
The video encounter was about as civil and professional as one could hope for, during an open carry in an incorporated area.

I was walking out of radioshack near the nimo walmart and got stoped by VB police for open carry, the radoshack employee called them I saw her outside talking to them oh no signs on the door and was not said anything by the employee about it. The officer said it was strange to see someone open carrying these days asked my name and ran it in the system, when they found out I was ok to carry the officer thanked me for carrying and told me he wished every citizen that could legely carry would carry. Will never go to that store again.

I guess that I"m lost though -- this was an OC so why exactly did the LEO have to run your name in the "system" to see if you're okay to carry a weapon?
