Virginia Gun Owners Forum - VGOF

Hi, I'm OldPossum and a new member as of today.

I have run across a gun (a Russian 1895 Nagant Revolver) that I want to buy and need to contact a C&R license holder in the vicinity of Charlottesville. I have Googled the subject but came up with nuttin'.

I know that I could run this purchase through an FFL holder but it seems that I might be able to get a lower transfer cost from a C&R guy.

Please don't think that I joined just to ask a favor. I intend to be an active member on the forum. I've held a CCW permit since 1995, am a member of the VCDL, and have put together a small collection of firearms and am always looking to add more stuff (to my wife's dismay).

P.S. I know that the Nagant is one ugly revolver but I still want it.

I am a C&R holder we can not buy weapons to resell,For collection only . To the best of my knowledge.

I have a C&R license too and that's exactly how I understand it.

A special thank you to tonyharless and oakridgestars for pointing out the functions of the C&R licensee. I have never dealt with a C&R guy, and was under the misimpression that I could pay for a firearm and direct the supplier to send the purchased item to him or her for the transfer to me, as is done in the instance of FFLs. I certainly know that they cannot buy a firearm for me. That would be illegal.

Oh well, I'll just have to have my usual FFL person receive the revolver and transfer it to me.

What led me astray was the supplier's writing of "C&R" underneath the revolver in the ad. I mistook that to indicate that a C&R could handle the sale.

have you thought about getting your C&Rs its not too hard to get ..

This is generally done buy a seller to let the C&R holder know they can purchase directly.

Some 01 FFL dealers will not do a 03 (C&R) transfer even on C&R items.

If you are going to be buying more than one or two C&R items, the $30/3-years for the 03 is less than my local dealer charges for one transfer... so getting the C&R was a no-brainier for me.
