"As the document makes clear, Federal law enforcement agencies do not limit their surveillance of US residents to phone calls, emails and geo-location information. They are also interested in calling cards, credit cards, rental cars and airline reservations, as well as retail shopping clubs," Soghoian explained.

A while ago someone as "joking" about not buying ammo and guns on credit cards, I guess it isn't a joke anymore.

In today's world you just can't win. Big government has us by the short hairs.

If this is true (and why wouldn't it be?) then the feds might stop by my house the next time they're running short on ammo

Like most people my age cash is an alien concept, but I do the like idea of using cash to screw banks out of the 2% they extort from merchants. Unfortunately I never carry any on me.

Carry some at the gun shows. Not only can you get a slight discount sometimes for cash, but yes, there's no record. There shouldn't have to be a record for a lawful purchase of commodity items like this! That's why the private sale remains so important. What's next, the Feds'll start tracking Chap-Stick purchases??

Yeah, whenever I go to a place where there's the chance of haggling (furniture, cars, etc.) I do bring cash. Buying a firearm or bullets with cash just seems sensible!

But if I'm out and about, theres a good chance I will somehow have just six dollars on me...seems to be always be six bucks. No idea why.

Just to be clear, the government is tracking all purchases, without a warrant, for anyone who makes their hot watch list. If you're on it, they are watching everything you buy, not just guns and ammo.

There is very little information as to how you get on or off such a hot list. Does having foreign relatives put on you on it? Does purchasing too many firearms from a FFL or NFA items put you on it? Can you make the list for donating money to the Tea Party or for "extremist" bumper stickers? Etc. etc. We just don't know.

I'd also ask how long until all of these violations of the 4th Amendment become drag net searches? I.e. everything is monitored.
