Virginia Gun Owners Forum - VGOF

One of our brothers over at OpenCarry.org is being harassed by the court system and could use some help with the financing of his legal defense. He is being represented by VGOF member "user" (also a member at OCDO with the same handle).

Here's a link to the thread that explains the situation - but essentially, he has been charged with brandishing and obstruction of justice for pointing his finger at someone (while talking to them and referring to them as "You").

As I stated in an earlier email - I was in a similar situation about a year ago, but luckily, the Commonwealth's Attorney saw that the police were in the wrong and my case was Nolle Prosequi. Had that not happened, I would have had a problem figuring out how to pay for proper legal representation.

Something like this can happen to any of us, and it's imperative that we all stick together when something like this occurs. Hopefully, if anything like this happens to any of us at VGOF, we will be able to pull together in the same manner to lend assistance where it's needed.

First update is that there is a trial date set for January 4th, 2011 - 9am at the Surry County Courthouse.

I am planning to attend - The more the merrier! If anyone wants to ride down with me from the King George area, I have room for a couple of folks.

This man, Skidmark, took a stand on principle and now needs some assistance from the community that he was standing for.

Authorities charge gun owner with brandishing…his finger

"Paul Henick arrested for BRANDISHING FIREARM in Chesterfield," the Richmond Times-Dispatch reports. Aside from a photo and a link to past news accounts, where it is learned Mr. Henick is a gun rights/open carry advocate, no further details of the arrest are presented.

For those, an account is presented on the OpenCarry.org forum that, if substantiated, presents serious concerns about security, police and prosecutorial misconduct.

The incident reportedly began as Henick attempted to take the Surrey
(Jamestown-Scotland) Ferry when "a private contractor working for VDOT to 'ensure security' ordered [him] to get out of his car."

When the contractor refused to reveal the authority he had to issue the order, Henick opted not to take the ferry, "and went to the turn-around point where he had a conversation with the ...supervisor,"
who reportedly denied the incident happened as Henick related it. To this account, Henick then "pointed his finger at the supervisor, punctuating the word, 'you,' and said, 'You don't know, you weren't there.'"

That, and the fact that Henick "was openly wearing his Rohrbaugh 9mm at the time," was apparently considered a threat, and the Sheriff's office was called. The deputy, after asking Henick questions, including threatening him if he failed to produce a drivers license (I am informed Virginia does not have a "Stop & ID law," and Henick was not in his car at the time of this conversation), and demanding nonexistent "paperwork" on his sidearm, stated that Henick "was not detained and was free to leave, [so he] got in his car and left."

It should be noted that a photo of a sign posted at the ferry says that "failure to consent or submit to screening or inspection will result in denial, or revocation of authorization to enter this facility."

That's it. There's no detention or cross-examination warning for those deciding they'd rather not accept those conditions and who opt to leave. Consent is only required "to board the ferry."

Its been a while since posting anything, sounds like some trumped up charges to me. The good ole boys of Surry and Chesterfield county. Reminds me of the Dukes Of Hazard county The dingbat leo"s don"t realise the right to turn your vehicle around and not board a ferry is not a crime. My contribution will be in the mail. Im very sorry to hear about Henic. Lets give em some support.

It has just come to light that the .gov retahds have claimed that Skidmark made racist comments and that all parties involved, save Skidmark are negroes.

To say that Skid needs our help would be a bit of an understatement. This smells worse than a three-day-old gut pile. Flies and all.

Umm...where in any of the articles about this does it say that?
