Glock Compact .45?
How come there isn't a Glock Compact in .45? There's a Full Size, Sub-compact, and a Slim Sub-compact. But no compact. I'm just curious, because I've considered picking up a Compact Glock as a second pistol, but I'd like to keep the same caliber as my 1911.
Maybe to promote the Compact .45 GAP? It just seems like a really obvious gap (pardon the pun) in their line up.

Re: Glock Compact .45?
Even though it's called a sub-compact, the Glock 30 is closer to the size of a compact Glock 19/23 than it is to a sub-compact 26/27.

I would think very hard before purchasing a .45GAP. Ammo is much harder to find, more expensive and it doesn't do anything the .45ACP can't.

Ah, I should have been clear, .45 ACP. I don't see any point in GAP, and wouldn't even consider one. No, I was just pondering another pistol in .45 ACP, preferably something CC'able. However I've heard the Sub-compact .45 is rather beastly, so maybe not.gunderwood wrote:I would think very hard before purchasing a .45GAP. I like Glocks for CC in any caliber but .45. They just don't feel right IMHO.Drewsifer wrote:Ah, I should have been clear, .45 ACP. I don't see any point in GAP, and wouldn't even consider one. Re: Glock Compact .45?
The baby Glocks aren't as bad as most people think from the research I've done, and the Glock 30 (the subcompact .45 ACP Glock) is bigger than the other subcompact Glocks, so it's kind of a go-between, and .45 isn't a super high pressure cartridge anyway so you won't be flying away on the recoil.
Now, if you're still unsure about the Glock 30 because it's a small gun in .45 (or the Glock 36, which is the single stack version of the G30) you really wouldn't be too undergunned (though I understand with a Glock 19 (Compact) or Glock 26 (Subcompact) in 9mm or the 23 and 27 in .40 S&W. Both are cheaper to shoot and more available than the .45 GAP and .45 ACP round alternatives, and with a good load will do the job just as well. Carry the biggest gun in the biggest caliber you're comfortable with,
Orrrr if you're willing to go with another brand, maybe the Springfield XD would be a better fit since it's more 1911 like with its grip angle, optional thumb safety, and beavertail safety. The XD45 Compact has a four inch barrel (Glock 30 has a 3.78" barrel) but a shorter grip that still holds ten rounds and comes with a full-size 13 round mag with a grip extension. Or a Kahr CW45, a slim alternative to the Glock, but the other Kahr models are more expensive than Glocks. Or a SIG P220 Carry (think single stack .45 ACP P229) or the Smith & Wesson M&P45 (the service model isn't much bigger than the Glock 30, and the M&P45c compact is close in size.) Not much else going in the way of polymer compact pistols.
Full disclosure I am a Springfield fan planning on getting an XD45 (4" Service w/ Thumb Safety) to supplement MY 1911 but I would NOT pass up a Glock 21 or 30 if I found a good deal on one.

Re: Glock Compact .45?
I'm not necessarily against Baby glocks. I've just heard the Sub Compact Glock in .45 ACP is a little awkward. Thick and short. However this is just ideal dreaming anyways.
I've held my brothers XD, and wasn't wow'd or turned off. We're planning a get together soon, so maybe I'll get a chance to try it out in earnest.
I'm not really looking for a full size pistol, but if I could find a Glock 21 I wouldn't say no.

Re: Glock Compact .45?
Well there's also the Glock 36 "Slimline". Think the Glock 30 but single stack so a much thinner grip. Also both the G21 and G30 are offered in "SF" (Short Frame) models that are slightly smaller grip size.

The pressure of the round has nothing to do with recoil. Recoil is nothing but Newton's laws of motion in action.RocKor wrote:The baby Glocks aren't as bad as most people think from the research I've done, and the Glock 30 (the subcompact .45 ACP Glock) is bigger than the other subcompact Glocks, so it's kind of a go-between, and .45 isn't a super high pressure cartridge anyway so you won't be flying away on the recoil.

Re: Glock Compact .45?
Thanks for the tip. Haha, the G36 is the only Slim line.
I guess I'll just have to keep carrying my RIA. Aw shucks.
However I think if in the future I'm just forced to pick up another pistol, I'll be looking hard at a G19. Nothing wrong with branching out right?

Oh well I guess I'll just load up to +P+ and not expect any more recoil at the higher pressure.gunderwood wrote:The pressure of the round has nothing to do with recoil. I didn't mean that it doesn't have much recoil, it's just the .45 does have recoil but the 9mm and .40 feel snappier whereas the .45 is heavy but not as sharp. At least that's what I perceive when I fire the different calibers. And physics was full so I had to settle with Chemistry.
To placate those who felt the G30 is too thick and are used to carrying single stacks. The other Glocks really don't need a vast reduction in grip size, really.Drewsifer wrote:Thanks for the tip. Haha, the G36 is the only Slim line.
Are you upset about carrying a 1911, mister? >:[Drewsifer wrote:I guess I'll just have to keep carrying my RIA. Aw shucks.
Absolutely nothing wrong with the Glock 19. In fact if I were Glock shopping and saw a G21SF and a G19 side by side I'd have a loooooot of thinking to do. Love that G19 but love that .45 ACP.Drewsifer wrote:However I think if in the future I'm just forced to pick up another pistol, I'll be looking hard at a G19. Nothing wrong with branching out right?

Re: Glock Compact .45?
The G19 is the best first Glock IMHO, unless you are well versed in handgun shooting. Small enough to CC, but large enough to get a good grip on. Enough caliber to stop a threat with good ammo, but less recoil than alternatives. Low cost practice ammo to boot!Drewsifer wrote:However I think if in the future I'm just forced to pick up another pistol, I'll be looking hard at a G19. Nothing wrong with branching out right?

Absolutely not! I love my 1911, and don't see myself changing my carry pistol any time soon. Call me a sucker, but I love the looks, the action, and the round. Should have thrown this guy there,RocKor wrote:Are you upset about carrying a 1911, mister? >:[

Gunder, my thoughts exactly. I think it's the most versatile pistol Glock offers. Aw crud, I'm talking myself into a Glock now!

I love my 1911 too! One thing to consider with a CC gun is that if you ever do need to use it, expect your gun to be confiscated and you won't see it for a long time. There is a good chance the average LEO doesn't care about your gun as much as you do, so damage or improper treatment is possible.

Re: Glock Compact .45?
I've had a Glock 30SF (short frame) for some time now and as size goes, I love it. especially considering it's double stack 45ACP. I think it's a little fat for IWB but thats my opinion and I'm not a big fan of IWB carry technique for anything. But a good leather pancake holster allows it to be OWB carried just fine. It's definately a great shooter. The SF version is 3.3mm shorter from trigger to backstrap and I like the way it fits my hand. Other's don't. And as recoil goes, it's surprisingly soft.
