RICHMOND -- There was no cease firing of ideas Sunday night at a community forum about guns. Over fifty people gathered near Byrd Park to exchange ideas about how well Virginia and the nation handles gun use.

"It boils down to making good people helpless will not make bad people harmless," said one man from the crowd who spoke during public comment.

"It's a difficult issue and I do think people need to be heard," said Andrew Goddard, father of a Virginia Tech shooting survivor.

Goddard represented the gun control side of the argument at the event, matched by gun rights advocate Bart Hinkle. After both had expressed their positions, the public was given a chance to question their stances and express their own opinions.

Background checks on gun buyers and what some call the gun show loophole was on the list for discussion. Some gun rights advocates saying they don't mind the screening but question what is too much control over their second amendment rights?

"I believe in individual rights the right to self defense and the right to own a firearm is one of those along with freedom of speech...religion and a bunch of others," said Hinkle.

Some gun control supporters believe that not all the information is on the table when it comes to guns and crime, that there is indeed a strong correlation between the two. And that if more were known, more would support cracking down on our current gun laws where they say there are holes.

"If a piece of information could help the public form it's opinion than that information needs to be given to the public," said Goddard.

It's gut-wrenchingly hilarious to see them take that position. It's perfectly understandable to think that not all the facts are getting out there if all you ever listen to is the Brady bunch. Because they aren't.

Willful blindness.

You know what their mentality REALLY is?

"I AM SCARED OF GUNS! I SEE NO VALID REASON TO OWN A GUN! I DO NOT LIKE OTHERS OWNING GUNS! EVERYONE MUST AGREE WITH ME FOR MY WORLD TO BE RIGHT!" :tinfoil:

The facts still support what gun control advocates will never understand. That is that criminals do not care about any law, much less gun laws. They laugh at these wimps that refuse to even learn anything on how to protect themselves. They like playing the victim and the only people their ignorance affects are the law abiding. Take away guns, criminals will get a knife.Take away the knife, the criminal will get a club. So instead of taking away all those items from the law abiding, why not just lock up the bad guys by enforcing the laws that already exist. While I am sympathetic to those that been the victims of crime, please don't punish me and restrict my rights when I have not broken the law.
