Anyone else tried Chrome? I'm typing from a live CD of it right now. To be honest it looks just like Ubuntu. The only difference is that it has the Google logo thrown in. It surprised me when it started by asking what search engine I wanted: Google, Yahoo, or Bing. I chose Google of course.

It's both. Google release an OS called Chrome as well. It's still in Beta testing but most think it will be geared towards netbooks. But like I said it isn't to impressive.

Where didja download the iso, Jake. I had been thinking of trying it on one of my pc boxes just for giggles, but forgot about it before I got around to it.

My understanding is that chrome OS is has just enough functionality to run the chrome browser, which i have been using for a few months. All your apps and data reside in the cloud, and yes, it is reportedly targeted at netbooks.

At work we migrated our e-mail to Google and decommissioned our MS mail server. Works great as long as our internet stays up.

The chrome browser is a little faster than IE and way faster than Firefox. It sometimes had problems rendering pages properly early-on, but they seem to have got it sorted out. The error messages aren't always very helpful, though, so I don't recommend it to my friends who are tech-challenged.

Looks like the iPad and the swarm of tablet PCs on the horizon will render the netbook and Google's OS to the Curios and Relics dept.

I tried it and yes, it's very Ubuntu-esque. I have it set up as a VM, but will probably drop this one. I prefer Fedora and Open SUSE. However, I'm definitely a Windows > Linux type. It's my bread and butter.

If Google ports its Android OS to desktop systems, don't be surprised if I take a leap. I love my Android.
