Without the change to Daylight Saving Time, how would we ever remember to replace the batteries in our smoke detectors?.

It's because you get to say this when it starts getting dark earlier:

"Darkness falls across the land...
The midnight hour is close at hand.
Creatures crawl in search of blood
To terrorize your neighborhood!

"And whosoever shall be found
Without the soul for getting down,
Must stand and face the Hounds of Hell
And rot...inside a corpse's shell!

"The foulest stench is in the air--
The funk of forty thousand years--
And grizzly ghouls from every tomb
Are closing in to seal your DOOM...

"And though you fight to stay alive,
Your body starts to shiver...
For no mere mortal can resist
The Evil Of...THE THRILLER!"

"MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!"

It was an 18th century bean counter/whale watcher that figured out that DST would save so many gallons of whale oil (and thus so many whales).

Essentially someone thought is was easier to change everyones clocks than to just post summer hours, or start work an hour early in the summer.

That someone, I believe, would be one Benjamin Franklin. And I'd prefer that we stay on DST instead of going back. I'd rather go to work in the dark than go home in it.

DST in the US is done on a state-by-state or in some cases a county-by-county basis, so you can find places that do not switch clocks twice a year. I wonder if the Tea Party can add banning DST to the platform for 2012.

Hey, it gives us an extra hour to hunt deer in the morning... Now if they can only figure out how to add an extra hour of daylight in the evening at the same time we'll have it all...
