Looking at the forum, I would just like to say that you are not entitled to feel safe. Its not anywhere in the constitution.
BUT, you are protected from an overbearing government. That is in the constitution.
As far as how the student handled and is handling the situation, I dont yet have an opinion one way or the other. Off hand I think if it were me I would have kept it and sold it on ebay or something. And when they pressed charges that would be a fine time to get some attention to the issue.
Of course, I am an angry little man who thinks less of his government with every year that passes. More likely I would try to keep my cool and make a rational decision.

However, the whole thing is crazy. The idea the the FBI can spy on you with out a warrant is so unAmerican.

Hmmm...I wonder if this part of the Patriot Act. I didnt see it mentioned...The Patriot Act as you will all recall was signed by Bush and is now safely under the control of obama....
Seriously, the bottom line is that had the student resisted they would have probably searched his house, hauled him off, and made his life even more miserable. Thrown a bunch of charges merely to see how many they could make stick. Unconstitutional? I'm sure, but at that juncture its up to an attorney to get a judge to agree while you smile at someone named Bubba...
This is a sad state of affairs. Yes, I realize some of you are thinking this guy maybe needed watching but if they can do this to him they can do it to any of us just as easily...

If he needed watching they could have gotten a warrant in a couple of hours...
