Planning a move to NOVA in the near future. Looking at possibly purchasing some land to live and or shoot on. What are the laws in VA regarding shooting on private land? what restrictions and regulations are there etc. Thanks

That depends on how far away from Fairfax County you plan on purchasing. Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun county? Forget it. Fauquier has more leeway. Where will you be stationed?

NOVA proper, forget it. 1hr out of DC, you can do it, but your commute will be awful depending on where you need to go.

Most people try to move out of NOVA.

You are probably better off buying a smaller house close to work and then find land further out. That's my plan one of these days.

Laws on shooting in VA on private land are set by the local city and county governments. So when you pick your location you will have to search the local regulations. As has been said above there are probably tighter restrictions as you get closer to DC. In most of the rural or semi rural areas of the state as long as you are shooting in a safe manner, not at houses, across roads etc. there are few restrictions.

Yep, some of us try but I keep getting my ear twisted by a certain pretty little gal who just dont want to leave... I'm hoping we dont have to endure a bad experience before she decides its time to unass this place...

Good plan, especially if you want to do "semi-retirement" some day, where you live in the big city for two or three days a week and have long weekends out at the farm.

Or "consult" and "telecommute". Sell your little house in the city for $350k and pay cash outright for something further out, bank/invest the remaining $200k.

Driving back from Seaford, DE this past weekend we saw signs for homes on a golf course 'from the $140's'. I threw up a little.
