ok the question is where do i get them, as of right now i have 3, 1 30 rd and 2 20 rd, the only problem is the 20 rounders i bought from the local gun show and neither of them work, its a pain in the ass to load them and they wont feed properly, the 30 rd works great but i want a smaller capacity magazine for when i go hunting, honestly if i cant hit a deer after the first 5-10 shot i have no reason to be out there, but i need a good 5-10 round magazine, any suggestions?

AFAIK, the 7.62x39 ARs have always had feeding issues. Mag quality has been a big problem. Bolt/extractor breakage is another. The best 7.62x39 AR mag I know of is this one (here is the 5 round): http://store.cproductsllc.com/762x39-st ... 56-ECS.htm

Check your gun for function, but ARs are not known to feed soft point bullets well. That is usually the hunting bullet for 7.62x29, a nice soft point. ARs tend to like the FMJ better, but that isn't ideal for game.

ive got a 30 round magazine that ive never had a problem with, but the 20 round mags seem to bulge at the top and it wont fit into the mag well and the bullets inside get wedged, the thing i cant figure out is why does it do it in the 20 but not the 30?

Are your sure it is a 7.62x39 20 round mag and not a more common 5.56, etc.?

well im not sure, ive had both a 556 and a 7.62, honestly the 20 rd looks almost exactly like a 30 rd 556, but the vendor at the gun show that i bought it from said it was 7.62

5, 10 and 30 rnd magazines

I've bought CProducts magazines in 5.45X39 (black stainless steel) and they work great.

I've bought CProducts magazines in 5.56X45 (black stainless steel) and they work great.

I've bought CProducts magazines in 5.56X45 (aluminum) and have had a 30% failure rate.

Stick with the stainless steel magazines. I won't by another aluminum CProducts magazine.

It's possible they just stuck a different follower in a 5.56 body.

If you're really serious about using 7.62x39, consider getting a MGI lower that will allow you to use standard AK mags. The round just has too much taper for the AR mag design.

yeah i think ill try out the new cproducts magazine first, $500 is a bit much to spend on a stripped lower at the moment. btw i was looking at my lower last night, why is it marked 556 if its used for multiple calibers? my first ar was stamped multi-caliber... just curious

Because all firearms manufactured by licensed manufacturers have to have a caliber marking. What the guys who mark "multi" do is get a marking variance that allows them to mark it with something other than what's strictly required.
