I will be applying for a consealed carry permit, I printed out the application and filled it out, it mentions having fingerprints done for first time applications, is there a specific place I need to get those done? I am living in Chesapeake. Any help would be appreciated. As far as everything else I think its pretty self exlanitory.

It depends on your county of residence. In Spotsylvania County no fingerprints are required for a CHP. If your courthouse won't do your fingerprints, the local PD should, though you may need to provide your own fingerprint cards. I'm not sure where to get those.

It usually is the Sheriffs office, which usually isn't far from the courthouse.

21 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER
AND
HAVE A PREVIOUS VIRGINIA PERMIT


OR
PROOF OF HANDGUN SAFETY COURSE
OR
VALID VIRGINIA HUNTING LICENSE
OR
PROOF OF SERVICE IN THE MILITARY






Fees & Costs
$50.00 Fee - Check or Cash
Make checks payable to CHESAPEAKE CIRCUIT COURT

Apply between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.



1.Bring the completed application to the Chesapeake Circuit Court Clerk’s Office.
(The application is available Forms on the Virginia State Police Forms & Publications website.)



2.Once the application is verified by a deputy clerk and payment is made, you will then carry the application to the Chesapeake Police Department for purpose of a background check.If this is your first permit or your current permit has expired you will need to submit to fingerprinting at the Police Department.



3.Please provide an additional sheet with the past 5-year history of your residence as well as a local daytime phone number or email address. Upon approval of the application you will be notified by email or phone that your permit is ready to be picked up in the Chesapeake Circuit Court Clerk’s Office. You must bring proper identification to pick up your permit. You may NOT send anyone to pick up the completed permit.



4.Proof of residency is a DMV issued ID with your Chesapeake address on it. In the instance you do not meet the accepted proof of residency, we will also accept a current power/natural gas bill (in your name), DMV registration, personal property tax bill, an unexpired lease or the DMV issued change of address card.



5.Application fee is nonrefundable.



PERMIT IS VALID FOR 5 YEARS



NOTE: For renewals, apply 45 days BEFORE expiration date.
*Out-of-state applicants must apply with State Police.

what kind of police station doesn't have print cards?

Most fingerprinting these days is done on a machine instead of the old pads and cards.

but that machine (live scan) still uses the cards.

That's weird, I thought you weren't required to have fingerprints anymore? PWC I mailed in my paperwork, had to talk to someone and fax a copy of my passport since I was born overseas, and got my permit two weeks later, four weeks total. I used a hunter education certificate for my proof of competency.

It's up to the individual localities....not required by state law.
