Sorry, forgot to post.
I jumped in to the regular forums without making a thread here.
My name is Shorty, I am a 31 year old white male Taurus with brown hair and striking eyes. I like cooking Jamaican food and dancing to Barry Manilow. My turn ons include honesty and boobs. My turn offs are smokers, liars, and clothing.
Also, I got on here mostly to find a gun range and store I can trust. There are many places to shoot and buy in the Manassas area, but some are obviously better than others. I am not a member of any clubs or private ranges, yet. Back in California I lived out in the Mojave desert and in addition to being able to shoot pretty much anywhere, I was also a member of a pistol/rifle range that was just a huge strip mine deep in the earth west of Inyokern. It cost 35 dollars a year and only had one rule: No glass bottles.
Then I moved to Oregon to take a job and found things to be a little different. Could only get into an Izaak Walton range and there were a lot more rules, not to mention higher fees. But I did it anyway and had lots of fun.
Now I come to Manassas Park and things are not quite so pleasant or accommodating. Memberships in my area are typically a thousand bucks a year and require sponsorship and secret handshakes and other such nonsense. And even for that you normally have to wait 6 months or so. Not what I am used to at all. Applied for membership to the Prince William Izaak Walton club. When I go to my next meeting somebody is supposed to sponsor me so I can get in.
Bought my Mark III in Eugene and I think the dealer out there was a little too casual in the transaction. Apparently they follow the rules in Virginia and its a lot more complicated.
The Ruger LCP was purchased at Virginia Arms Company. I dont like paying MSRP but no one else could do better.
Am not a fan of Rugers but it seemed to work out that way. They make the best target pistols and when picking a pocket pistol it was a choice between the LCP or one of the Kel-tecs. Based on what I've heard and read, Ruger has slightly better build quality, even though they are not perfect.
Next gun will be the subcompact Sig, or maybe a Walther PPK. I dunno yet and with the 30 day waiting period I have plenty of time to think about it.
For reference I do take advantage of my concealed carry permit and load Hydra Shok 380's. Also use factory magazines with aftermarket extensions.

They may look the same, but they are a little more comfortable than the Ruger extensions.
For shooting at the range I prefer Winchester target rounds, but stupid Walmart doesnt carry them. Had to buy CCI from Amazon, and they are a little too expensive.

If you have a CCP you do not have to wait 30 days for your next purchase.
Welcome to the forum.
And, Barry Manilow, and Jamaican food, should not be used in the same sentence.

The Ruger LCPs are miles ahead of the Kel-Tecs IMO. No gun is perfect, but the number of Kel-Tecs that just don't work is crazy (personal experience).

Mostly what I've read is that the Rugers are only marginally better, but the general consensus is: Dont risk your life on that small margin.gunderwood wrote:![]()

I've heard really good things about the Taurus, and the Bodyguard 380 I checked out at Nova Armament was pretty darned cool.

FWIW, I've always been able to find the Winchester white box range ammo at Wally-Mart - it's usually what I purchase when I can find stock. Otherwise, I'll use Remington. Maybe it's just your Wal-Mart, but I would think all of them would carry the same stock. Now, whether or not they have anything in stock in your caliber at any given time is a entirely different issue...

Isn't "Listening to Barry Manilow" one of the questions on ATF form 4473?

BUMP!
Spent the past week on the phone with several Walmarts. Apparently the Fair Lakes store is the only one that regularly keeps 380 in stock. The two in Manassas do not. So next time I go up to Blue Ridge Arsenal I will swing buy and get several boxes. And my next gun with definitely be a 9mm.

If you're thinking of a 9mm, man, lotsa choices. You might not be a fan of Rugers, but I'd still recommend checking out their SR9 pistol. Basically a Glock that's reload- and cast lead-friendly and that you don't have to pull the trigger to field-strip. And it's $349 NIB at some dealers.
