I feel your pain. I shoot at the blue Ridge arsenal but I can hardly stand it. It's crowded, dirty and really over priced. However, I can always get a lane at BR, no matter when I go. The only time I ever had to wait was when there was a large gun show in Dulles. One thing I am grateful for is my GF's family farm in PA. We head out there once a month and shooting there is worlds better than the indoor range. I can set up my own targets, take as long as I want, draw, drop mags...whatever. I too wish there was somewhere closer to where I live that was outdoors and private.

Welcome aboard Thrifty
I think we all dream of Utopia where we are free to shoot our guns at whatever we want whenever we want to. I only live on an acre currently, so it's a no-go for me. You can bet that my next property purchase will be 20 acres or better though!

hey original poster, are you on bryco-jennings-jimenezarms.com? if you like cheapo saturday night specials such as cobra and jimenez, that's the place to go to talk about them. i have about 450 posts over there.
as far as where to shoot, check out isaak walton league of america's fairfax chapter which is off of compton road in centreville, which is on the boarder with manassas. there is a waiting time to become a member, i believe its a few month wait right now, but i bet you'll get in.

I got lucky and I'm living the dream. Only problem is I need to extend my range. Only 50 yards to the target from the bench and 74 yards to the target from my front porch. But a friend of mine lives in Richmond and has a place a mile or so from me that is cutover and I think I can get close to 300 yards there. It's nice to live in the 'sticks'.

Rod & Gun Club is the only range I found.
We have a publicly available search engine for Firing Ranges in the US. You can get to it by
clicking here. There are more than 3,000 ranges in the system and you can search by "Indoor Pistol", "Skeet", and other features you may want to know before going to the range. If you don't see your range, please let us know.

I live in woodbridge, not too far from manassas and have been to blue ridge and gilberts, but now ill make the trip down to The Range in stafford. Prices are MUCH better and I've never had to wait. Its a little bit of a hike but not too bad, check it out (

I belong to IWL in stafford, it is a great place to shoot. You may want to try Clark Brothers at the corner of 17 and 29.

IWLA is a great program. Also, I thought Bull Run had a public range. Check' that out.

I think Bull Run is only trap/skeet and archery, at least that's what I remember reading from their web site.
I've been thinking very seriously about IWLA in Manassas. Anybody else have input?

Ok here is some input. I have a bench rest 100 yard range and a pistol range out my back door anyone in the area that want's to use it is more then welcome as long as I know ahead of time and I am at home or they are going to be with Vahunter. I am lucky and own 101 acers and made my own ranges.
P.S. I don't charge to use my place and you do have to bring your own targets.

Very kind of you Bill. Thanks for the offer. Sounds like a good place for a big meet-up sometime this summer

Yes I have had a few get togethers at my place for members of the North American Hunting Club in the past. I have plenty of room for people to park campers and or put up tent's if they wish to. I forgot to mention that I also have a 30 acer lake attached to my property that me the wife and the bank own 25 acers of. A get together for a day or 2 of shooting would be great. If we had some people that needed help in improveing their ability to shoot whatever they carry I am sure that I could help or one of the other people at the get together could.
