I'm about halfway through the book right now and reading slowly. I realized how screwed I'd be a couple pages after it happened.

I think that I would make out ok. I could survive on my knowledge and with my wife's knowledge on medical thing's we should be ok.

- get yourself an old truck without any electric junk in it
- generator and supplies for it
- start a garden or at least get an idea on how to grow your own food
- stock pile non-perishable food
- clothes for rainy cold weather
- cooking tools for cooking on wood fire
- medical supplies
- stock pile most commonly used ammo

And be ready for the looters that come to take it all

None of this "go it alone" BS. Study history, without a clan or team your survival odds drop like a rock off a cliff.
Me, I got a team of people I'm pretty sure we can all depend on each other. If we pick up more along that way that's great too!

If you want something to cook with over an open fire, a cast iron skillet and a wok will keep you covered.
And remember, if you use oddball rounds, no one is going to steal them from you. Who are you going to try to steal from, me with my stockpile of 10mm ammo, or that guy with the stockpile of 9mm ammo?

Does it really matter if they kill you and then take both the gun and ammo? I don't think caliber choices matters so much as how well you are organized. Besides, how do they know you have a 10mm until after they kill you?
ZeSpectre is right, you need a group. Even in war our most specialized and highly trained warriors can get overrun without support. Zombies come in large groups.

t hat is a valid point, a group will have much better chances of survival. plus it would be alot easier to defend/guard(you would definately need to have guard shifts zombies and looters love the dark) and survive with more people to depend on. You would definately need to be disciplined and organized. and also there would be logistical problems involved that would need to be worked out. ( chain of command location of equipment and area to be inhabited) I would also think that in addition to a static area to live defend there should be alternate areas and maybe a "cache" or two of goods along the way in case the area your in is uninhabitiable due to fall out or you have to beat feet.
now I'm going to take my

hat off.

This is exactly why it is important to have the coolest toys...everyone wants you in their group! Also, by default you get much more freedom to choose your "job" while still contributing to the group. E.g. how many other people know how to run a fifty out to a mile? Exactly.

I have complete faith that the Government will have full order restored within MOMENTS of such an event. You all are a bunch of nut-cases!
Yeah - I'm heading straight for SgtBill's crying like a little school girl.

I dont think thugs are going to send out polls to see who has what so they know who to hit...if you gots anything that looks valuable then you are a target.

People talk. Neighbors know what you have. Face it. If you aren't talking about it, your wife, kids, friends know and blab. It's just how things are.
Plus, keeping it stashed and someone finds it? If they can't use it, they'll dump it. No one wants to hump around 2000 rounds of ammo they can't use.
