No, compensating is shooting a magnum when a standard cartridge would do. This is just pure awesomeness!

Besides, it is big enough to make horse jealous.

WOW. I'd love to see/hear a clip of the rifle fired with and without it.. I know its hard to capture the percussion(or con?) of the 50bmg, but at least a clip of a standard shot and a clip of a compensated shot would make a sweet comparison

You shouldn't use them on MG as they cause parts to break. Youtube has lots of videos:

There are several purpose-built M2 cans out there. They just have to be set up right to run well. Same with the .30 guns (modified barrel is enough for those).

Look's real good Garret. Are you going to be able to rebuild the wipes in the unit or is it a sealed can.

I should have said MG/semi-autos. The military did some testing on their Barrett (semi-auto, but similar) and the M2 IIRC. It was presented at their

The Barrett testing was for the M107 refreash and they decided against any can because they caused them to break parts. The guns just weren't designed to handle the increased backpressure. I found the M107 testing: http://www.dtic.mil/ndia/2006smallarms/semick.pdf

While it is "old" (2006) I should note that AFAIK, no military has deployed a 50BMG suppressor on anything but a bolt action.
• Drastic increases in recoil energy produced an overpowering situation resulting in stoppages and premature component failures.

• Broken extractors and cracked charging handles were common.

• Frequent stoppages (FFD, FXT) experienced during TT and by Soldiers during LUE
It isn't that it can't be made to work, but rather that it makes the weapons unreliable to the point the military has yet to use them (or solve the problems). They observed this after only 1k rounds.

If you're curious, I have the preduction version of the prototype candidate "G".

Precision rifles cans from the top manufacturers don't use wipes anymore (affects accuracy). This is a sealed can. Generally, a quality can like this, which uses high nickel alloy steels for critical parts etc., will outlast several barrels.

Looking nice! Ear protection still required right? Hope it doesn't take to much of that awesome concussion feel to much.

Neat ,Will it work with other than sub-sonic loads ?

Yes and no. Most super sonic projectiles create a crack that is 130-140 dB (caliber dependant...larger = louder). Technically, since the round leaves the barrel several feet in front of the shooter, you never hear something that loud from the shooters vantage point. Most of the muzzle blast is eliminated for all practical purposes. The sonic crack overwhelms any other noise.

This can is rated for 142 dB. Technically hearing safe, but regardless of caliber most people wear hearing protection anyways. It does eliminate the massive concussive wave though, which is a tremendous benefit to help avoid flinching. Recoil is reduced too.
Vahunter wrote:Neat ,Will it work with other than sub-sonic loads ?
Absolutely. It will be louder since the round is supersonic, but it is designed for full power loads. The quietest round ever measured is suppose to be a sub-sonic .22lr at 115-118 dB. dB is a log scale so every 3 dB is a doubling in power. 510 Whisper (specialized 50 cal sub-sonic round) is suppose to be 126-127 dB with the 750gr A-Max. A sub-sonic 50BMG should be practically identical to the 510 Whisper.

I don't plan on shooting subsonics. I just wanted to get rid of the rediculous muzzle blast unless I want it.
