Non-Va residents purchasing a gun

Hey Guys,
I posted a while back about concealed carry near MCV/VCU campus. The issue back then was that I felt uncomfortable walking my one of my girl friends home late at night in downtown richmond, which is also near MCV campus. And I was worried if I got a concealed weapon that I would be violating VCU's rules. Now I have moved, and dont really have to deal with that as much, but would like to purchase a firearm here. The problem is that I am a Florida resident, and Va does not sell to non-va residents - which is cool. My questions is, are there any neighboring states that do? Or do I have to go back to FL and bring my gun up here? I dont want to break the law or do anything that might jeopardize my educational future. But I just miss going to the range with my own weapon. I even miss cleaning my own gun. Not to mention I would probably sleep better at night. Thanks for the advice in advance
