Virginia Gun Owners Forum - VGOF

So I took the metro to the movies this past weekend and decided to take my gun with me. Kept it concealed since I wasn't really sure what the metro's policies are...does anyone know if the metro prohibits firearms? I never left VA so I was legal in that regard, just not sure about being on the train with a gun.

I don't see anything online indicating anything either way - my guess is that it depends on the stop and whether you're legally allowed to carry in the jursidiction. If you board and exit in VA my guess is that you'd be ok. Still, given the number of tourists that use Metro, I'd probably carry concealed regardless to avoid any unnecessary disturbance and/or hassles. I know that VRE allows for carry in VA; I don't see why Metro would be any different as long as you're in VA. Just don't fall asleep and wake up at Metro Center or something! Eeek!

I'll search my archives, but I believe that VCDL discussed this topic and the outcome was that in VA it is legal, but be careful because the metro does go to DC/MD!

Yeah we were only going one stop away so I knew we'd stay in VA.

Carrying on Metro in VA is fine. Metro is pretty religious about announcing stops as the last in VA, which should help those unfamiliar with the boundaries between the free Commonwealth and the People's Republic of DC.

There may be reasons you decide not to open carry; you just don't feel like it, or maybe you just don't agree that open carry is a good idea; but whatever the reason I would never advocate going from open to concealed just so as to not spook the sheeple. That means allowing others to dictate what our rights should be. As long as we carry within the confines of the law we should carry however we are comfortable.

Agreed. I personally would simply rather not subject myself to the potential drama. That's just my personal choice. All of the people on the metro may not be from VA and may not be familiar with our laws and I'd rather get to my destination having to interact with as few people as possible. It's got nothing to do with letting others dictate my rights; it's got everything to do with my choice to CC.
