I wonder how Feinstein would handle *this* HD situation....

A family in California had someone kill the power to their house. They're in a "crime-free" neighborhood.
I'm glad to now be in Virginia where we have real Freedom to defend ourselves.

How would that have been different here? He did have a gun to defend his family. It's actually easier to USE a gun in California, it's just harder to buy one.

Hey Cowboy T,
I would agree with you but the problem is that we can only defend ourselves here if we are backed in a corner and in fear of ours or familys lives.
We need a Castle Doctrine here in Virginia!
I was very pleased to see that just the threat was enough to scare the would be intruder away and that the police did not give the home owner a hassle about his pistol.

I would bet that Feinstein, and probably Pelosi too has got armed security on the taxpayers dime, Being a hyprocrite like ol Chuckie Schumer she would probably condemn the homeowner for taking the law into their own hands,, She is exactly what is wrong with the Senate today,, An elitist snob with money that sits in her ivory tower telling the serfs below what to do and how to do it...

Having a brother that lives over there in the Land of Fruits and Nuts, err, California, I can tell you that it's also harder to carry one. It may be easier to use it within the confines of your home, but elsewhere not so much. I've even heard that there are mixed interpretations of their open carry laws, and enforcement of those laws is not consistent from municipality to municipality. Now, statistically, I don't know what the ratio is between the number of violent crimes that occur at home (home break-ins, etc) versus not in the home (muggings, car jackings, etc), and I'm too lazy right now to go look it up.

Another question, probably general opinion / practice (and pardon the threadjack): if a similar situation were to happen to any of you, do you think it wise to warn the potential intruder that you have a gun and will shoot? Might that not give away your location and perhaps tempt the intruder to fire on you preemptively, if he/they are armed themselves? Granted, things are probably best when no shot is fired if it can be helped. Thoughts?

Yes, outside of the home it gets more difficult. Getting a carry permit is hard in the more populated counties, up to impossible in the large cities.

I think you will find there is no "right" answer. It is situationally dependent and of course your states laws come into play. In CA, it probably was the right call because had the intruder broken in and the home owner shot them, it could be the home owner going to jail. Sad, but true.
It is purely a judgment call and only you can make it. This is why we have the phrase: "I'd rather be judged by 12, than carried by 6."
Personally, if there is any question as to my legal ability to defend my life and family, I'm going to be very cautious. On the other hand, if I really fear for my life, I will defend it as effectively as I can and Lord willing I will be successful.

The great news is that I'm pretty certain that the Commonwealth allows for this discretionary use of deadly force.

Sure does ,, right after you have exhausted everything that you can possibly do to avoid the confrontation..Then you can defend yourself but take notes cause there will be a test for certain when you go to court .... Hopefully you won;t get sued by he BG';s family,,,Reasons like that are why we need a full Castle Doctrine here ,,not some watered down feel good compromise by the old ladies in the State Senate..If not for their BS last year we would have had it..

Exactly.
We do, but it will leave you bankrupt. As a society we should not require that justice be funded by the victims (the person who defended their life). That is the whole point of the Castle Doctrine.

If you know what you are doing, the older meters could be removed by hand.

I think so too which would cut it off. I think all that has to be done is a quarter turn. Still doesnt sound like an easy thing to do. Could be someone who actually knew what they were doing.

Hey, don't laugh--that's the only way we can cook the acorns we eat in our hollowed out oak tree homes! You're being insensitive and discriminatory, you RACIST!!!
Seriously, though, certain Californians like Feinstein, Boxer, and Pelosi *do* bother with traditional power...power over others, that is....
I'm just glad that dude had the gun at all. Commiefornian politicians are moving to even get rid of *that* right--except, of course, for the well connected. Grrr....

I am in constant fear for the lives of my family......
,,,,so.........I';m good to go right?.....
.....and as far as killing someones power, its usually 'code' to have a kill switch outside the home for the first responders in case of an emergency.
