I was over on VaGunTrader and saw a Maverick 88 for $225. I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on this shotgun. Seems like a fair price to me. Anyone?

personnally I can find them online for that much or cheaper new. Seems to me buying a used one would be a bit cheaper. Just my thoughts

Walmart over here has them for under $200.

From what I understand, it's an "economy" version of the Mossberg 500. Most of the add-ons will interchange.

Dedicated HD rig and fun shooter.

I think I might try to get the guy to go lower on the price. If not then I'll pass and check out some of the places you'll mentioned. Thank guys.

It is probably a decent gun for the purposes you state.

As long as it is the security model (18.5" or 20" barrel). FYI: HD shotguns generally make poor everything else and vice versa. I like my 590 a lot though.

theyre pretty decent shotguns for the money. Theres a ton of aftermarket accesories that will fit it, (some useful some not). you can interchange barrels and stocks to go from tacticool to sporting if you decide to later on. $225 is a little high though hopefully you can get them to come down a little.

I have one of the "Field" (long ribbed barrel) models and I also have a slug barrel for it.
I'm not really a shotgunner so mine gets pretty light use but I do enjoy it on the occasions I pull it out of the safe and it's never given me any problems.

I did a review on mine over on THR

Update: I think someone offered him the full asking price. I called last night and PMed but no answer. Even if he does I doubt he moves on the price. It was the 8 shot model so it would be a decent HD gun after adding a light and side saddle. If anyone is looking to sell a 88 or any other HD gun around $200 shoot me a PM. Good review ZeSpectre and thanks for the help you'll.

www.classicarms.us has them for 199.00, I dont know about shipping. I have also seen some at budsgunshop.com I have ordered from both retailers and would recommend both.

Good luck!

Thanks for the link, while I was there I couldn't help but notice the ARs, made by Rocky Point Arms. I've never of heard of those guys. Man they got K31s(Garret got me wanting one) and some CZ-82s. Aww man here come the money distractions!

Most Mav 88 parts will interchange with the Moss 500. Differences: safety switch is in the trigger guard and not tang mounted, and the plastic forend is molded onto the steel forend slide. Barrels, buttstocks, and most parts and accessories will interchange.

Some more good news. I found a Mossberg 500 for sale for $200. I don't have any details but it's said to be "like new" So I'll see how that pans out.

Do you specifically want a Mossberg, or just an 18" HD type shotgun?
There's a Norinco Ithaca clone for sale and I've heard good about those.

I saw that, and call me what ever names you want but I tend to avoid guns made in china. The could make the best gun of all time but I still wouldn't buy one. Looks like they make an alright gun but I just couldn't bring myself to purchase it. BTW I'm pretty sure Norinco is based in China, I could be wrong.

I would be open to an 870 of course.

The 870s are good guns, but I prefer the 500/590s because of where the pump release is. On the 870s it is forward of the trigger and not natural to engage IMO. The 500/590s have it just behind the trigger so you can engage it without moving your hand from its nominal grip.

I have a Mossberg 500 myself, and I completely understand your sentiment.
