PA Non-Res Permit in Less than 7 Days for $26

Acting on some info Vahunter posted a couple of months ago, I applied for a PA non-resident permit. Total cost was $26 plus a couple stamps. I mailed my application on a Friday and received my permit back by mail on Thursday just 6 days later including the weekend - amazing! Vahunter had also related a super fast transaction time. So, what coverage does a non-resident PA permit get you beyond what a VA CHP provides? In a word, Georgia. If you are VA CHP permit holder and travel up and down the I-95 corridor or visit Georgia this may a good option for you if you don't have another non-resident permit that covers Georgia. Here's the info on how to apply for a PA non-resident permit:

as long as you have your va ltcf any pa sheriff must give you a pa ltcf...however the center county one is the quickest and easiest to deal with

The Centre county sheriff is on the ball, from what I have heard the other counties take their time getting the permits out. I sent my paper work to Centre county and recieved my permit in the same week. Reminds me, I'm about due for a renewel.

PA has a new law on the books that will soon disallow obtaining a non-resident permit by mail. If you think you may want to get a PA non-resident permit and you don't want to travel to PA to get it, now is the time to act.

Not a direct law cite, but it has the background I think.
"Under the new state law, counties will have to have systems — including photo machines, driver’s license swipers and electronic signature pads — that meet the state requirements in place by the end of March 2011."

This is a good description of what;s to come and Centre County is right smack in the middle of the "change"
http://www.centredaily.com/2010/02/07/1 ... -cost.html
CONCEALED GUNS
Permit law changes could cost county
But that money will likely dry up in 2011 when a state law aimed at standardizing and modernizing Pennsylvania’s licensing takes effect.
In it's rush to standardize the permit process they have a desired new system and most counties can;t afford the equipment upgrades.... It may take a while to get this implemented. This story is in the latest edition of the Centre paper so it will be worth watching for comments to the article

Part of it comes form
PA 18 ss 6109
(e)(4) The sheriff shall require a photograph of the licensee on the license. The photograph shall be in a form compatible with the Commonwealth Photo Imaging Network.
They will be taking a pic of applicant with a camera that puts pic right into Imaging Network...which groups us with booked criminals...
There is also a signature pad like at store checkouts...where you don't actually sign the slip but the electronic screen....

After reading that it appears that the intent was to stop Mail Permit applications,,, There is no mention anywhere regarding NON RESIDENT LIcenses as they call them, PA was going through some crazy gun law fights last year and apparently the License to Carry was a victim to gun control that either wasn;t opposed hard enough or was slipped by without fanfare and the Governor wet himself signing it.... I can hear him now,, "This'll stop them damn foreigners (non residents) who want gun permits from my state" Of course he also shot the other foot because of the lost revenue form those applications, Figuring their logic makes my head hurt.....

the reason you won't find non-resident ltcf metnioned anywhere is because they issue the same ltcf to everyone...well they did, except for now. bunch o bullshit, i'm saddened by this by my home state. But I find VA's requirements to get a permit far more in bed with gun control then pa's...prints, training requirements....

I thought there was a bill introduced this year to stop the fingerprint intrusion in VA but don;t see it at VCDL's tracking site... I do however think that some kind of basic training or testing should be used to issue a CHP...May become a CWP this year if it has the votes,,,,Let's hope it makes it!

I thought he fingerprint bill did pass...part of the restaurant bill?...but it would not remove the need for prints for non-resident applicants.

Why?
If anything, VA should become a Constitutional Carry state.
Here's to hoping that HB 2069 passes, WITH VCDL's recommended changes!
