That would require the repeal of the Sullivan Act, which outlawed handguns in NY by banning concealed weapons.

Don't hope too hard, you'll be disappointed. While I think this is probably going to be nothing more than more of the same, if I'm wrong and things do start to improve it's usually after years of court challenges before any progress is made. DC is all the proof you need of that.

As has been noted elsewhere, Brown v. Board was decided in 1954. Widespread desegregation didn't get rolling until the '70s. These things take time - and we face a hostile judiciary and a hostile political and media climate. The public may be in favor of rights for gunowners, but the people who control the government absolutely are not. We'll lose at least as often as we'll win.

Yes, yes indeed he did - it was in the WaPo....

New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg (I), who has joined other big-city mayors in advocating tougher gun restrictions, said the Heller and McDonald rulings "both make clear that we can work to keep guns out of the hands of criminals and terrorists while at the same time respecting the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens. That's what New York City has always done."

In D.C., this guy went through an arduous task to obtain his gun:
"$833.69, a total of 15 hours 50 minutes, four trips to the Metropolitan Police Department, two background checks, a set of fingerprints, a five-hour class and a 20-question multiple-choice exam."

So glad we don't have those laws.

What? "That's what New York City has always done." So, they must assume just about everyone in NYC is a criminal.

Hey now, let's not forget that Uncle Mike is a elitist billionare dips*&^ that occasionally will tell the little pople that he is in their corner,, Yup just as long as the little people agree with him and that other proffesional ass George Soros. Bloomberg is forever painting himself as a staunch supporter of the people and their rights while doing all he can to circumvent the system and take them away,, Another elitist that needs to be brought back down to reality and then sent packing to wherever dingbats like him go when discovered to be less than useless.

Mayor-for-life Daley is already hinting at his plans to ignore the SCOTUS decision and pass their own draconian restrictions.

Shame he didn't keep the gun, it sounds like he really enjoys it. Especially considering all the money and time that was spent to get him through that process, even if it was the Washington Post that footed the bill. It is stories like this that show that gun control really doesn't work, it only affects those of us who are inclined to obey the rules in the first place. Do you really expect a felon to go into the Police department 4 times just to buy a gun? Or waste his/her time taking a class? Nah they want to hold it "gansta" style anyways :fireright:

Not to mention a criminal can take a trip to a local gin mill and probably find the weapon that they have in mind and Daly can be damned,, Next phase of this fight is stopping that sort of law abuse by City Councils , Power Mad Mayors and Misguided anti gun groups and allow honest people the chance to excercise their rights unencumbered by a ton of BS,,,

This gives us the tools we need to further our fight for freedom - Yeaa it aint over yet But Now we can fight the good fight with our new found freedom decision by scotus.
Also this will have a positive effect on NEW gun laws and restrictions -! some places [not NY or shitcago] will think twice before trying to pass stupid gun laws -as most places are hard up for money and a lawsuit would cost a good penney to fight -so better to keep the cash and forget the gun laws
