House Bill 885, passed 74-25, would allow any person who may lawfully posses a firearm and is carrying a handgun while in a personal, private vehicle or vessel to keep the firearm secured in a container or compartment in the vehicle or vessel.
Does this mean a person without a CHP can legally have a handgun in a glove box or elsewhere that is out of view?

Re: Question Re House Bill 885
Yes - that's exactly what it means. Gone are the days (as of July 1st) of open carrying your weapon on the front seat of your vehicle for fear of being charged with concealment without a CHP, but knowing that your firearm is not in a secure place and is a missile hazard.
You will be able to stow your firearm in a glove box, center console, a gun case or pistol rug, etc.
Here's the new law to go into effect July 1.
