What are the best gun shops in the Middle Penninsula area of Tidewater. We have a place near Saluda VA and I'm looking for a couple of "toy stores..." Thanks

There are a few recommendations in the Reviews section. I'm sure someone from the Peninsula will chime in shortly.

Hmmm, the best? Not sure. I have 2 that I do business with regularly, but I can't sit here and say they are the best. One is A & P Arms, the other is Superior, both on Mercury Blvd in Hampton. Some say A & P has high prices, but I don't think so... Example... I want an M1A, Superior has it for $1500, but it is on sale... it normally costs $1750. A & P has it for $1550, but that is their normal price for the M1A. But because it is on sale at Superior it is $50 cheaper.
I have been to VA Gun and Sport on J Clyde in Newport News.... If you love Glock's and a sh!tty attitude, then that is your store to go too. The guy's attitude - if it isn't a glock, then your weapon is crap and you aren't worth the time.
The Marksman in Newport News has high prices and weren't very talkative when asked a question. I've only been there once.
Here is a link to a review I did of the first 2 with addresses:

Don't overlook Bass Pro Shops in Hampton.

Thanks. Anything near Gloucester or the southern end of the Northern Neck that you're aware of?

I remember seeing a little shop on 17 near Yorktown but I did't get a name or have time to stop. I wanna say it was close to Harwood Mills reservoir on the east side of the road.

In Gloucester there is a place called Hunters Heaven, 3530 George Washington Memorial Hwy, Hayes, VA 23072 and their phone # is 804-642-9763. If you are coming from the point it's about a mile past Farm Fresh on your left hand side, before you get to the Farm Bureau. If you're coming from the courthouse it is about half a mile past Providence Rd before you get to Ultimate Electronics (Used to be Carter Lumber).
The prices are competitive with the places around but its not the largest of any store around, but still a decent gun shop.

I currently work for Superior Pawn and Gun, both in Hampton and VA Beach. Having spent far more time on the customer side of the counter, and experiencing some of the rude, obnoxious, condesending and arrogant personnel in gun shops over the years, I try to bring a positive and helpful demeanor to all my customers. I will work with you to get you what you want and not impose my own likes and dislikes on you. There are no dumb questions in my book and if I don't know the answer, I'll try my best to find it for you. We also have the only indoor shooting range in the City of Hampton, 4 lanes, and an 8 lane range in VA Beach. Don't take my word for it, come in and ask for "Les" and I'll be glad to help you out.

Say Les, what are your range fees? Handguns only or rifles and shotguns as well? It's definitely nice to hear there is a place I can go to fire off some rounds without having to traverse the bridge tunnel!

I believe that the shop is Winfrees. Not bad if you don't mind choking in smoke!

12.00 per hour range fee, shotgun and pistol allowed, we have frangible ammo @ the Hampton store for .223; it is a bit pricy, but the owner tells me he closed a deal at the SHOT shot for some less expensive rounds.

With respect to prices, the Marksman saved me $80 over Greentop on a CZ75B and $100 on a Sig P229R over Greentop. I always check them first for prices.
But I won't go back to VA Gun and Sports. I went there looking for a holster for my Glock 30. The guy would not break away from his conversation about T-shirts with some guys standing there. When that guy left he finally asked me what I wanted and told him. He walked over and grabbed a holster, tossed it on his counter and asked if that would be it. No - it wasn't it. I went somewhere else. He also has a sign on his door not allowing concealed handguns in the store without his permission.

For those of us on the Southside, Battlefield Guns and Ammo recently opened in Chesapeake. I haven't bought anything there yet, but the staff seemed friendly. Their store is pretty small, but I hope it grows rapidly! Here's their website:
