I went out today for the first time with my new G17 G4. First the range itself - pretty hot. I was in Range 1, Lane 9 and had I been in the center lanes, my report may have been more favorable. The reason is that they have two portable style A/C units in the room to try and keep up with the ventilation. They are situated behind the center lanes with the vents pointed straight out. So basically, it seems that the center lanes (3,4,5,6,7,8) get the air conditioned air. Lanes 1,2,9, and 10 don't have much cool air at all. While it was hot out today, it's not like the dead heat of summer yet either.

Secondly, my G17. Out of 200 rounds, I had no Failure to Fire, and 3 Failures to Feed. The first 50 were actually reloads from Tom Drinkwater (the guy who I purchased my gun through) and the rest were factory Federal 115gr FMJ from WalMart. The first factory box went without issue, the second box had a single failure to feed and the last box had 2. After each failure, I ejected the magazine then the cartridge and examined them, and noted nothing wrong (to my relatively untrained eye though...) I reloaded the cartridges and they all had no problem feeding the second go around. I was being mindful of my grip, stance, etc. so I am pretty confident that I didn't limp-wrist it.

Lastly, many of my rounds were ending up low and left of where I was aiming. Every time, I drew a breath, exhaled half of it, lined up the sights and had the target directly above the front sight. I also slowly squeezed the trigger. What am I doing wrong?

Last, last note - I think I want to have a lighter trigger pull and see many Glock 3.5 pound trigger pulls available for pretty cheap - $15 or so. Do they make the trigger significantly easier to pull or is it a barely noticeable change?

Too much finger on the trigger, and/or milking the gun.

Are Glock sights POI=POA (Point of Impact = Point of Aim)? I know my Sigs are, and my XDm is very close to it. You might try putting your front sight dot right on the target bullseye. Also, what distance was your target?

Distance to target was between 7 and 10 yards.

I tried to make sure I was placing just the pad of first "section" of my finger on the trigger, not wrapping my finger around it.

What is "milking" the trigger?

milking the gun, not the trigger

Think "milking a cow" - the clenching of your hand and overtightening of your grip will draw the gun low/left

OK - that makes some sense now - I was gripping the gun very tightly with my right hand, while my left was there just to support some. I'll try loosening my right hand grip some next time!

Do you shoot weaver or isoceles?

You may also be pulling the trigger instead of a slow even squeeze all the way to the rear and the recoil is covering it up. You can chime in here DK. Yes the 3.5 transfer bar is a lot nicer then the orginal Glock transfer bar. But you still have to squeeze the trigger all the way to the rear.

I'm shooting isoceles for now, I haven't been taught or shown Weaver yet.

I don't have that much experience yet with my gun - only 200 with my pistol, and another 200 or so with the rental at the range. I'm still kinda apprehensive of the recoil when it does go boom.

I would suggest some professional shooting lessons. That may help you overcome some of the issues you are having.

I saw that but he emphasized squeeze...could be a pull without realizing it.

Well, I ordered the 3.5 pound bar and extended slide lock from Glockworld.com. Shipping was a little steep, but oh well.

Seems like these are easy items to install. Will probably put another 200 or so downrange prior to installing the goodies.

Also, to note, I placed an order for the Streamlight TLR-3 with a local vendor. They say they will beat a lot of Internet pricing, and I like that plus I can buy from a local guy. After I get the light, I'll report back how the transaction went.

Do yourself a favor and save your ammo untill the 3.5 is installed.
