(My apologies if I failed to use the search engine successfully. Looked for "colt junior" "colt .25" and "colt auto" and didn't find anything applicable to the topic.)

I recently acquired a Colt .25 Auto (circa 1963). Not a Colt Junior. Haven't had it out yet. Sent it to Colt for installation of a safety recall and haven't seen it since (2 mos). Anyway, I'm considering getting a conversion unit to allow me to use .22 Short and I'm wondering if it'll be worth it. Surely, if you can find .22 shorts, the cost for ammo would be less and the performance for plinking would probably be about the same.

Would receive your comments with greatest respects. Any ideas where I could find such a conversion unit? You think the effort/cost would be worth it?

I guess they did that to capitalize on the recent shortage of .25 ammo which isnt so short any more...

My question is why ? it is not a target handgun, it is for just hearing something go bang with .25 ammo or .22 ammo. Leave it alone and get a .22 cal handgun for real target shooting.

I shot one recently and it was awesome. The owner calls it his "mouse fart" gun. Personally, I think it depends on the mouse and I'm sure some mouse farts are louder than that .22lr.

Thanks for the comments. I had a Ruger MkII but seemed to have a problem with fouling brass and stove pipe jams. Wasn't that much fun shooting because cleaning the brass shavings was a pain. Unfortunately the pistol was stolen, so I'll never know how much fun it could have been. I have a NEF .22 9-shot, 4" which is fine, but sttled on the .25 Colt given it's size and concealability. Colt used to make a .22 conversion unit to the Colt Jr but finding one has been a challenge. I'm really not all that set on a .22 short for plinking, but figured the cost of ammo might make a conversion unit worth the investment. Thought I'd ask...what the heck, right?

The Mk II is usually a good gun, you could have gotten a lemon, or you could have had ammo or magazine issues. .22s are always ammo sensitive.

The Browning Buckmark is another popular, well-regarded .22. You might consider that.

It's owned by Sam Lisker, a well known collector and authority. Sam is dedicated to helping those who have Colt auto questions and invites e-mail and telephone queries.

He's been most helpful to me with respect to my old, old (1912 delivery) M1911.

I have a Colt Jr. I think it is a 1968 and the .22 short conversion. The Jr. appears unfired and the conversion looks used a bit. Both are in their perspective Colt boxes.
