Auto MAgazine loader
Auto MAgazine loader
Anyone ever heard of the Lulu auto mag loader for pistols? Supposed to prevent the sore thumbs and such. Is it worth the money?
Thanks

Re: Auto MAgazine loader
Actually its called an Uplula and it does work great. I've seen any number of my students with one. I've never used one personally.
When I was in LE, I'd see our Academy recruits using these various loading tools. Especially common was that POS loader that came with the Glock. I'd ask each recruit where the leather pouch was on their gunbelt that would hold such a device. Obviously, they didn't have one. Pretty soon they understood the meaning of what I meant - that if you don't have it available to you in the field, it does no good to train with it at the range.
Then again, I was a hardass as an LE instructor. I've mellowed some in my old age.

I like the uplula as you can use it for mutilple calibres and does saves the thumbs...
takes a little getting used to...but then you get good, and it is quick reload...

Be particular, and be vigilant, as the enemy will only attack on two occasions:
When you're ready or when you're not ready.
Also never forget, that everyone who shows up, is not necessarily there to help.

Thanks guys. Also I understand the concept of having it in the firld, so you are a good LE instructor. I'd have said the same thing in the army, but now I am a lazy civilian....
Not to say civilians are lazy....but at my age, I figure I have sort of earned it

I have one, I need to get a few more for spares. It makes loading those damn double stack single feed mags a breeze. (Makes me appreciate double feed all the more - especially if it's clip-loadable.)
Serious question - how often do police reload their mags in the field? How common is carry of loose (i.e. not in mags) ammo?ProShooter wrote:Pretty soon they understood the meaning of what I meant - that if you don't have it available to you in the field, it does no good to train with it at the range.

I use one...my Baby Eagle .45 holds 10 and when I first got it I couldnt get past 7 or 8 without help from the loader...they work great and are quick...Young likes it too...they are a great accessory for women...
No more catchy slogans for me...I am simply fed up...4...four...4...2+2...

Re: Auto MAgazine loader
I've never felt the need for one for rifle magazines....but....with those darn double stack pistol magazines I wouldn't be without it if I have a choice.
Those things work great. They make it so easy to load the magazines. After loading 3 or 4 magazines my thumbs and fingers are so tender I can't get the mags. full any longer.

Excellent question!Diomed wrote:Serious question - how often do police reload their mags in the field? How common is carry of loose (i.e. not in mags) ammo?
In reality, not all that often. There are a few times though...
1) Many officers carry an extra box of ammo in their assigned vehicles as well as their personal vehicles. Never know when you'll need it, especially off duty. Most off duty guys would carry just the one mag in the gun. That box of 50 is handy to have around!
2) One department I worked for issued Glock 22's and 23's depending on the officer's hand size. The 22 mag would fit and function just fine in the 23, but not vice versa. You can imagine that in a gunfight, one officer needs a mag from another and it doesnt fit - what do you do? Dump, and reload into your mag.
3) Consider tactical mag changes. You are in a gun fight and fire ?? rounds. You dump your mag, reload an fresh one, and pocket the used but not expended mag. When there's a break in the action, reload and top off.
Where is your reloading tool in those scenarios? At home, probably.

Ah, the tactical reload...something I bet few ever practice but an essential skill...takes much less time to eject a mag with a couple left and slap in a new one than it does to find yourself empty with a locked slide while the BGs are shooting...ProShooter wrote: 3) Consider tactical mag changes. I don't need no woman's accessory. Than again, I carry this: http://www.chuckhawks.com/825_magnum.htmzephyp wrote:I use one...my Baby Eagle .45 holds 10 and when I first got it I couldnt get past 7 or 8 without help from the loader...they work great and are quick...Young likes it too...they are a great accessory for women...

To the OP:
Get the UPLULA, you'll love it.
You'll use it several times every time you go shooting.
You'll probably never be in the kind of situation described by ProShooter.

Re: Auto MAgazine loader
Range time is way far too precious these days so I tend to have 6-8 mags loaded for each caliber/firearm. Yes, I can do a tactical mag reload if warranted; been there/done while that in the service.
After each range session I inspect each mag, wipe 'em down and fill 'em back up. Refilling 10-20 glock mags + a handful of 30rnd AR mags + a few 10/22 mags takes time and those little "sissy reloaders" just doesn't same my thumbs, it also saves me a lot of time!
Cheers
