Of course no one cares...everyone in the administration is busy with the gulf oil disaster, reforming wall street, and how bad the AZ governor is for trying to do something the feds should be doing...why should a little water in TN matter...oh, almost forgot -- what about jobs - unemployment is now officially at 9.9%
If we spend $900B of your hard earned tax dollars now, unemployment WILL NOT rise above 8%...
YOU LIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can imagine the staff meeting at the WH -- Mr President, Tennessee is under water...Obama replies -- ok, whats wrong with that...dont all rednecks have john boats...have FEMA send them fishing rods...they gotta eat...

Truth is that we havent seen a bunch of helpless people standing in waist deep water looking to the skyteam six news helicopter for help like we did during katrina. The reason is that we are not talking about the same quality of population....truth is a bitch.

Obama can't deliver federal aid and can't blame Bush, so he has to have a news blackout. Nothing to see here... please, move along.

Well my guess is still they (obama, et al) figure the good folk in TN are conservative voters and will stay that way so why save them...not being cynical or pessimistic...just being a realist...besides if they spend good money on TN then they cant spend as much on handouts for real voters...

Obama has two "Hurricane Katrina's" to deal with now. The BP oil spill in the gulf, and the Tennessee floods.

Here's a picture of the Navy base in Millington, TN where the Navy-Marine Corps Internet (NMCI) servers are housed. Maybe the Navy will have email back soon...

Washington won't help Tennessee, because people in places like Tennessee know how to do things for themselves. I'd bet dollars to donuts that neighbors are helping neighbors there, insted of looting the local wal-mart for bigscreen TVs. I'm not saying that there is no crime or looting, but I bet that more people are taking care of each other and taking care of themselves better than people in the 'urban area' of New Orleans.
Give me a Tennessee Vol how knows how to hunt and fish, over a New Orleans welfare recipient any day.

I just hope those poor people get all put back into shape. I can't imagine what'd be like to lose your house, your job, and even loved ones/pets.
But one of my friends is from Tennessee, and he'd let no flood get the best of him. Those people down there are tough as nails, and resourceful.
On the other hand, I was down in New Orleans not too long ago, and it's STILL not back to what it was.

I think the TN flood situation is in fact being largely and publicly ignored by the administration and especially the media. They have turned their heads the other way on this one and I dont think in their minds its worth acknowledging...

Truth is that Tenn is considered a white community. Another truth is that New Orleans is better off right now than it has ever been.

The Federal response to the TN disaster has been substantial and sustained. However in this forum the Truth remains on vacation, at least when President Obama is the topic. Anyway let's introduce some pesky facts to the orgy of misrepresentations and outright lies.
The heavy rains came over the weekend from about 1,2,and 3 May. Incidentally that horrible government so many of you bash every chance you get got it exactly right with the weather forecast. On 4 May the Cumberland River flowed over its banks inundating Nashville. Federal aid started to pour into TN that same day since that idiot President Obama, who obviously couldn't care less about anyone in TN, declared parts of TN a major disaster area (I believe 53 of some 95 counties were immediately eligible for emergency monetary assistance). I'll stop here no need to list the dollar amounts and other extensive Federal Aid devoted to TN since it doesn't fit with the story some of you will continue to create out of whole cloth.
Thankfully, the State, and the Feds decided not to play politics and instead worked together to aid the citizens of TN. I supposed they knew that the hate-orators and their followers could lead the latest dance of hate.
But wait, why is anyone whining about the Federal Government's lack of response here. Aren't you in the every man for himself camp. Why should the good people of Virginia see their hard earned tax dollars go to help someone in TN who didn't have enough sense to build their home or business outside a flood plain. Suddenly you've gone soft on me and are acting like progressives with all their talk of the "commons". And how we all are obligated to preserve and protect the commons.
Come on now you can't have it both ways, or can you?

Well said GS78 I'm sure the good people of New Orleans, many of whom I met during post Katrina operations in LA, MS, and TX during hurricane cleanup and relief operations appreciate your comments. Hopefully you can spare some time and pitch in with say Habitat for Humanity, or some other charitable organization sponsored by many thousands of Americans from every part of the country. If you did, I think your attitude which is in the distinct minority would change.
Having met many of them face to face on their property and in various shelters my attitude sure changed. I was constantly stunned by the grit and determination of people to push on after having lost everything including loved ones. Were there some bad apples who sought to take advantage of a bad situation? Of course there was and I encountered a few of them too, but then crime rarely takes a holiday.
Too bad you didn't meet many of them, or if you did, you didn't stop to engage and listen. You could have learned a lot from one of the elderly gentleman who lost everything and had nothing, only a concrete slab and steps remained to mark where his house once stood, yet he refused to give up and leave. He had to be approaching if not already North of 90 years old. Yet every day he walked down to the shelter to help out where he could, and was so kind as to sit down and share a wonderfully rich life story with me. He had no need to say it because he demonstrated every single day that he was tougher than nails!
I made it a point to try and walk a mile in their moccasins, to put away any smugness, arrogance, or holier than thou attitude. I made it a point to be non-judgmental, to engage and above all to listen and to try and understand the trauma they had just experienced and what they now faced.
Maybe someone can make me understand how one can shout to the house tops about how patriotic they are, and how much of an American they are, yet consistently display an attitude that BOOMS OUT F you to their fellow Americans in a time of need, or simply because they are perceived as different. Again thank God that attitude does not prevail, and gets buried every single day under an avalanche of thousands of acts of kindness.

Let me see, just for kicks I Googled Federal Aid for TN Flood Relief. Wow what an obscure story I only got 2 million plus hits on Google. I ran through page after page about Fed assistance to TN. The sources ran from far and wide and covered every form of media. Here's just a few Gems
"Flood aid: Tenn. House resolution offers thanks to Obama, others"
"Tennessee House lawmakers avoided partisan debate Thursday over a Democrat-sponsored resolution to thank President Barack Obama’s administration “for their rapid response” to recent record flooding in the state."
Shaw’s resolution calls for the House to extend “its unwavering, unreserved gratitude to President Barack Obama and the members of his administration for their timely response and assistance” following extreme weather and flooding that hit Middle and West Tennessee from April 30 to May 2.
There are many, many more pieces some negative, and some positive about the Fed response. However while they were not as disrespectful as you Mr Z. I know you can't bring yourself to do it, just yet. Anyway, It seems that you're right this time: Obammy and his people did do a good job. Thanks for being fair-minded and one of the first to point that out. Incidentally was your internet connection out when you arrived at your erroneous conclusion about the administration and media coverage. OK, I know, what's the term in vogue now? You misspoke? http://vagunforum.net/posting.php?mode= ... 30&p=43833#

Mr GS78 there you go again engaging in funny math. TN is considered a White community? By whom? You? Can we get a source on that lie? That's going to come as a shock to everyone who is not White that they live in what is considered a White community. Thanks to your friendly neighbor MR GS78, you are now officially invisible and do not count. On second thought was that maybe a Freudian slip?
Nashville which saw horrendous flooding was 65% non-Hispanic White and 28% Black in the 2000 Census. Even if you look State wide Blacks are more than 16% of the population. That's your idea of a White Community? Then again maybe the flood waters went to locations and houses where only Whites lived. Nope, that's not it either. No, no way! Hmmm, Psst Mr GS78 I forgive you I see how you could have made that error, you must have mistakenly consulted one of those old books where ... . You know what? Not even you would do that, so I'm not going there.
I give up: I guess you misspoke again!

Mr Z your posts continue to catch my attention. Obviously, you have a source of information I don't have do you care to share your sources.
1. Your source which shows the breakout between conservative voters and other voters in TN.
2. Your source that gives a definition of conservative voter. I believe the last source I saw gave more than 10 different types of conservatives.
3. Your source that totaled the amount of dollars spent by the Obama administration on handouts presumably to buy votes
4. Your source that shows little to no federal aid has gone to TN under the rubric of Flood Relief Assistance
5. Your source that shows that FEMA asks for political and Ideological identification before approving any assistance.
If this were a bet for a beer, it would be the easiest free beer I ever earned
Nope you are not being cynical, or pessimistic and for sure no one who comes up with such fantastical parallel universe stories could ever be considered a Realist.
The fact is no one has to give you an ideological name, the weight of your words do that quite well.
