I know this is from a year ago in California, but when I ran a search, I didn't see it posted here and figured the members would get a good laugh.

So apparently in California the FN FiveSeven firing the 5.7x28mm cartridge is classified as an assault pistol. And this is the part that takes the cake in my opinion.

"You use it on large lions, tigers and bears," said LAPD Deputy Chief Michel Moore, commander of the Valley Bureau.

I guess he is correct that you could feasibly use this pistol on a large lion or tiger or bear. The most likely outcome though is that you are going to simply really tick that creature off. Now personally I am all for a live demonstration by the good Deputy Chief of his technique with the FiveSeven pistol, but I am going to be sitting about 200 yards off with my trusty M1 in the good ole .308 caliber. You see I don't want to get in the Deputy Chief's way by accident.

It's especially useful if the lion, tiger or bear is wearing body armor

In most of Africa it is illegal to hunt with anything less than .375 cal IRRC. Even given that, youtube is still full of videos of lions getting shot and attacking the shooter. I'm sure a .375H&H and the 5.7 are very similar cartridges and should dispatch lions, tigers and bears easily...

In other news, the LAPD is either so ignorant of firearms I wonder how they manage to qualify or so rabidly anti-gun they are willing to lie to the public. Politics and police, what a wonderful mix!
