Dear Mr. Waltman,

Thank you for contacting me to share your views on the gun show loophole.

I am a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and have worked to protect the Constitutional right of law-abiding citizens and sportsmen to keep and bear arms. However, I do believe we need to enforce the laws on the books, and I will continue to work for full federal funding to make sure the National Instant Criminal Background Check System is complete and up-to-date - improvements that were mandated by Congress following the 2007 Virginia Tech tragedy.

On April 21, 2009, Senator Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ) introduced the Gun Show Background Check Act of 2009 (S. 843). The bill is currently pending in the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which I am not a member. Please be assured that I value the thoughts that you have shared with me on this important issue. I will keep your views in mind should S. 843 or any other legislation on this matter come before the full Senate in the future.

Again, thank you for writing. As we move forward in the 111th Congress, please continue to contact me with your opinions and concerns.

Sincerely,
MARK R. WARNER
United States Senator

There are only two ways to get a different response:

1 - send your letter to a different member
2 - send them a threatening letter...not suggesting anything merely pointing out a fact...

Having said that I am certain beyond doubt that somewhere in our country there is an elected member of congress that actually reads and individually responds to constituent letters...God bless them for their efforts...

I got the same letter from OL I support the second amenmdment when the party allows it. He is the same one who voted against the Veterans Second Amendment bill that would guarentee a vet was given a fair evaluation before being denied his constitutional right to own a gun. Mr Webb voted YES to support the bill. I don't trust either as far as I could throw them, the saddest part is we have another 2 years of Webb and 4 more of I support things as needed instead of being a man of convictions and being a true statesman.

That looks like a near duplicate of the letter he sent me a couple of times. I would've hoped for something more substantive.

To paraphrase Jim Croche,

"You don't tug on Superman's cape,
You don't spit into the wind,
You don't pull the mask of that old Lone Ranger,
And you DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH HIM."

He's a tool.

I call his office every couple of weeks or so and "thank" him for being a traitor by voting for h/c reform. I can't wait to vote against him when he is up for reelection.
