I just joined IDPA and am looking forward to trying it.
I've found a number of places in NoVa that do monthly matches, but my immediate problem is a "Qualifier". Can anyone point me to a Qualifier coming up in the area?
Thanks!

Why is your immediate problem a qualifier? You can shoot local IDPA matches without being ranked.
Silver Eagle Group ran their qualifier in January, and I was told at the time they wouldn't do it again for about 6 months. BRA just did a qualifier in March. I have no idea when they'll do it again. If you hear of anything local, can you share it?
I missed the matches at both SEG and BRA because of work travel. And now it looks like I'll mis them in May because of an oblication. Dang it!

Ditto above on the Qualifier. I try to attend every match at BRA and SEG, but didnt go to the qualifiers at either. Unless you want to get ranked, or compete at a sanctioned match, just go and have fun. I'll probably hit the next qualifier this year, just for grins.

I look fwd to shooting in IPDA too. Hopefully will be able to do so in June. I figure if I get some experience first then I will do better when I try to qualify.
The closest place to me is BRA but the second Wed is a schedule conflict so I'll try at different places. Nothing seems easy or simple for me

Can someone point me in the right direction for getting started with IDPA? It's one of the things I've read some about and would like to try it.

I got started by taking a half day course at Silver Eagle Group. That was definitely a blast, and I'd recommend it if you can do it (and if they continue to offer it... what the heck is up with SEG these days?).
You can also search Google. There are plenty of online resources.
But once you are confident in basic holstering skills and drawing from concealment (and that is something you can practice at a local range such as BRA or SEG), you can always get the IDPA rule book, read it, and attend a match. Be sure to let the match director know it is your first time.

I meant "Classifier". I didn't know you could shoot without a classifier.
Thanks!
