CNN and Gun Show Loophole

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/201 ... =allsearch. CNN has recently posted a video with an interview with Mayor Bloomberg where he flat out lies. At :47 he says "at gun shows explicitly there is no requirement to do background checks". My understanding is that if you are a FFL licensed dealer you are required to do background checks no matter WHERE you sell your guns.

Facts...I want facts

In an interview with a Denver area TV station the father of one of the students tragically killed at Columbine HS had this to say about closing the gun show loophole:

Mauser said he doesn't know if expanded background checks would have prevented what happened at Columbine. "But clearly when you allow people who have something evil in mind to simply walk in a gun show without going through a background check, you're asking for trouble," Mauser said.

You want facts? OK, here're a few.

Nikki Goeser was legally required to leave her gun in her car due to Tennessee's laws saying "no guns in bars". She followed the law. Unfortunately, the STALKER that was following her did not follow the law. Said stalker put five rounds into her husband, Ben. Since she followed the law, she couldn't stop him from killing Ben. She's now a 34-year-old widow. It's been a year this month, and she still cries over his murder.

Having a gun isn't a guarantee of safety. Nothing in life is. But it sure would've improved her odds of stopping that STALKER before he could actually kill her husband!

Here's another fact. My Dad was walking to his car from his hotel room. Along the way, he got confronted by three white racists wielding knives. They were going to "cut ourselves up a negro, boys," right up until my Dad showed them his snubbie revolver. Those racists slinked off but quick!

Private sales of firearms must be preserved. If I had kids, I'd want them to be able to buy guns instantly if they discovered a stalker. Background checks can take days in some instances. And California-style "waiting periods" only endanger the innocent law-abiders.

And by the way, there is no such thing as a "gun show loophole." I feel for that Columbine father, but he doesn't know what he's talking about.

@BluemontGlock: that kind of lying's not a "northern" thing. It's a Michael Bloomberg thing. You go to Vermont, and the attitude is very different.

That was one of my arguments (or statements) to a couple of reporters who queried me at the rally yesterday.

"Why do you feel the need to carry a gun? Aren't handguns only designed to kill?"

To which I had no reply but "Yes." Then I followed with the logic train. I am not a big, imposing guy. I choose to do what I feel is necessary to protect myself and my family from harm. If someone else with a gun or knife or anything else comes at me, intent to do harm, if I am unarmed I stand no chance.

If I am armed I have at least some chance. I would rather some chance than none.

The only reporter who seemed to appreciate my position was from a Canadian News organization.

wylde007 it sounds like you were interviewed by the same reporters that I was. They were looking for lies they could use to try to divide us and make us look bad.

CowboyT: All good facts. I guess I was a bit unclear in my post. I want facts from those requesting the "closure of the gun show loophole" that crime is INCREASED through this supposed hole. Could a criminal walk into a gun show and buy a weapon for use in a crime? Sure they could. But that statement contains pure speculation. I want PROOF..EXAMPLES..FACTS that criminals have and/or are currently exploiting this "loophole" to perpetuate crime.

Reading around the published stories online you would think there were only one or two "reporters" present and not the locust swarm that there actually was.

There is very little originality from one site to another. Most are the same syndicated version of the same story written by the same author. Why have so many different sites at all if they're just going to publish the same stories?

The so called "mayor" bloomberg (who bought the office by the way for $250 million - yes he spent $250 million during his last campaign) is a TWIT of the highest order. I wouldnt be surprised if he didnt own a gun or two...I bet he keeps one of them nice little silver .380s in his top desk drawer...for close encounters and just in case...

Hey bloomberg the TWIT --- YOU LIE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
