Virginia Gun Owners Forum - VGOF

Hey everyone. I've been into firearms for the past 6 years or so...even have my CHP. (Almost time to renew so I'm glad we'll be able to do it by mail!!) Kinda got away from practicing my skills past couple of years, but somehow my wife got interested and even took a class for her CHP. That got me back into the groove. In anticipation of her permit I even bought a G26 for her. Pregnancy got in the way of her going through with it so far, but once the baby arrives (very soon) she wants to got back to the range. Its too bad that she's never even put any rounds through her own gun. Too bad for her, but kinda nice for me.

Anyway, I've been lurking and decided to jump right in. There's tons of great information and I really the depth of opinions and knowledge of the forum members. Hope I can contribute soon.

Good mornin', Caw, and welcome aboard. Your interesting introduction raised a question for me that had never previously occurred to me. Regarding the possibiltiy of your pregnant wife's getting some range time soon, I thooght "Well, she'll need some hearing protection" (very obvious, of course). Then I thoguht of what I think has been quite well demonstrated by now--that foetuses are quite able to hear sound that originates external to the womb; that the child's ultoimate taste in music might even be shaped by that.

In that light I wonder if a pregnant woman's decision to spend time at a firing range ought to be influenced by a possibility that the foetus's hearing might be affected adversely by gunfire reports. I haven't a clue whether you and she ought to be concerned about that, but if I--fat chance at 82--were to be in that sitation I think I'd make a phone call to a professional audiologist and ask for an opinion. That's one he/she ought to be pleased to address gratis.

Anyhow I hope the new addition brings both of you immense joy.

Just another great reason to go get a suppressor!
