I was doing some load development for the 300 Varminter and I hit a small tree with it. The tree was approx. 4" in diameter. Guess a Nosler 125gr Ballistic Tip at 3700fps works pretty well. Most of the round disintigrated (leaving some dark leaded area, tiny piece of the green tip was in there too). The tree partially fell over, but got tangled in another tree. I finished pushing it over to make sure no one could be hurt when it finished falling. You can see where I nicked it previously, but this shot was dead center. Before I finished pushing it over it looked like a small explosive went off inside. Green tree factured and expanded outwards. Awesome!

The two bullets (110gr Vmax and 125gr BT) I shoot out of that gun are both are designed to expand rapidly without lots of penetration. While FMJ goes right through trees like that, those rounds dump nearly all of their energy into that small space...about 3,500 ft-lbs give or take.

Wow, would ya look at that. How many squirrels will be homeless because of that. Not to mention birds, ants, and other bugs. Shame on you...

Suffice it say I'd hate to be any varmint you decide to pull down on...
