It's been passed by the House and Senate. Signed by Speaker of the House on 3/22/10. Signed by Senate President 3/25/10. Waiting for Governor signature and will then become law on 01 July 2010.

The Gov is under increasing pressure to veto the bill. I hope he doesn't fold. I know AG Cucinelli is an avid sport shooter so perhaps he holds some sway. We've seen too many instances of politicians caving under pressure recently.

He has until April 12 to either sign into law or veto. I feel confident that he will sign it, but those politicians can be tricky sometimes.

I sent him a letter a short time ago, and part of what I explained was that as legal conceal carry citizen that frequently carries my firearm, I am forced to leave my pistol unsupervised inside my vehicle in the parking lot of restaurants when I decide to enter to eat lunch or dinner with my family. This cannot be safer than keeping the firearm on my person while inside. Additionally, it is absolutely ridiculous "in my opinion", to legally allow people to open carry in those restaurants, but make it illegal to conceal ~ with a legal permit to do so!! I usually carry my gun concealed in a holster that fits inside my pants waistband, and I have no desire to pull that out and display it outside my pants (AKA Open Carry). I am former law enforcement, so it probably comes from years of experience having (forced) to conceal my weapon while off-duty! So again, in my circumstance, how is it safer for the public to have me leave my gun inside my unattended car in the parking lot while I eat my cheeseburger?

Gun owners turned out to help him. Stabbing us in the back is not going to help him with his future political ambitions.

Well stabbing voters in the back seems to be the norm these days....we dont know what he's going to do until he does it...proof is in the pudding...I'll breathe easy when he actually signs it...

I believe he will sign it. Then we can all hold our breath and wait for the shootouts over too many olives in the martinis

Yup. If he veto's it he will loose the next election.

If he veto's it he will loose the next election.
Governors in VA don't run for reelection. It's a single four-year term.

I suspect the Governor will play both sides of the Fence. If he does not sign the Bill it still becomes law July 1st and I don't believe he will veto it.

I do too. If he really wants to show support for gun owners he will have a ceremonial signing and make it public. Anything less (especially letting it pass without signing), IMHO, shows he supports us marginally...

Possibly... on the other hand, I strongly suspect Governor Bob will be looking for another elective office once he's done in the governor's mansion.
He'll be finishing in time to challenge for Warner's senate seat, right?
