So, just like here in Virginia, the House passed the bill, but they have a Democrat Governor who may very well go the way of Governor Kaine. Democrats - there's something wrong with those people - and it's not just gun issues...liberal pinko commie bastards is what they are. (pardon my French!)

That's not French, it's reality.

One difference between TN and VA, is that they have bars. Any establishment that enforces an age restriction, such as a bar, is off limits for firearms. Our open carry laws are much less restrictive than Tennessee's.

A LEO friend of mine, that lives in TN, has told me that he finds people carrying concealed weapons on a regular basis. Very few have a permit to do so. In spite of that, he sees very little violence related to handgun use.

Here in Virginia the govenor vetoed the bill...

BUT:

He passed a bill letting retired police officers carry in establishments that sell alcohol by the drink and ALLOW THOSE OFFICERS TO DRINK WHILE CARRYING.

WTF?

I love it. Below is a quote from the veto article. Note to Chief Serpas: this is not an issue of public policy. It's an issue of upholding RIGHTS and the only research required is a quick scan of the Bill of Rights. You ever heard of that document?

Nashville Police Chief Ronal Serpas called the legislation a “major public policy” issue that is not substantiated with research to support its necessity.

“If this public policy question needed to be answered, why wasn’t there a tremendous amount of research put into to it to demonstrate that we need to change our public policy,” Serpas said. “Nothing like that happened. This debate is being driven by emotion and ... not driven by facts or circumstance.”

Tennessee house overrides the governor's veto and passes bill allowing conceal carry in establishments serving alcohol. It remains to be seen if this can be considered a win if restaurant and bar owners declare their premises off limits to weapons. This will be interesting to watch.

I assume that it's illegal to CC while intoxicated in TN just like here in VA.

I hate how the sheeple immediately assume that this new law applies only to bars. It's not even about bars, really. It's about TGI Friday and Applebees and myriad other similar establishments. No concealed permit holder with half a brain is going to be out barhopping while carrying. However, you can bet that there are a lot of criminals out there who don't care about the law one way or the other and conceal a weapon in bars and nightclubs every weekend. When will they get it through their heads that it doesn't matter how many restrictive laws are passed - a criminal is still a criminal and will do what he or she wants to do regardless, whether it's with firearms or drinking and driving or selling dope or ...
