so i got my first press a few days ago, the whole setup, im trying to get info about what bullets/powder/primers are good for first starting out and how much powder as well, i have a few manuals ive been reading but i wanna get some suggestions and results from people who have been actually doing to compare to what ive been reading, any help would be appretiated

I can't recommend any specific loads, but will recommend that you give Power Pistol powder a try. It meters very well and burns very clean. It is my new favorite powder.

For an alternative to jacket bullets, take a look at Berry's plated bullets. For an even less expensive option, take a look at Missouri Bullet Company's cast bullets.

I'll second the Berry's plated bullets. They work well and are less expensive.

I've been using Unique powder but am now looking for an alternative to it. It seems to be dirtier than factory loads and I'm having problems with my accuracy.

Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I use winchester western #231 with a 180 grain slug over 3.7 grains of powder for about 950 FPS and I am very happy with the load out of my Glock.

Are you using the new and improved Unique or older stuff. The new is said to be cleaner and definitely is. I host up the last of my old and swore I wouldn't get anymore due to the dirt, until I tried the newer stuff. It definitely is cleaner.

Anyway, give Power Pistol a try. It is one of the cleanest powders that I have tried. I ran 100 rounds thru my 1911 the other day. It would nearly pass the white glove test afterwards.

thx for the info, ill definitely give power pistol a try, but as for the bullets im not sure what i can use, i was told only to use jacketed bullets because lead bullets will foul up the barrel of my jericho, may be true may not but i dont particularly feel like testing it

Copper plated (read Raniers, Berry's, Proofmark) will not lead the barrel at lead pressures. They can be pushed too hard though. They are much cheaper than jacketed.

ok so i just did a bit of reading from a bunch of different sites and it seems like the biggest problem is you have to be sure to clean the gun after every shooting (which i do regularly) so i dont think ill have a problem with lead bullets, knock on wood

Running a mag of FMJs through after a session of lead really cuts down on cleanup time.
