Hi,

I'm new here and want to say hello to everyone. I was wondering if anyone here has taken the concealed carry class at the PSS range in Roanoke. I just wanted to know what all it covered and if it's worth the money. Is the qualifying part difficult? I'm thinking about signing up. TIA

Hi valley. I haven't taken the CC class that you mentioned (or any CC class for that matter - my military service qualifies me for a CC permit), but I believe that any CC class is worth the money, especially if you have limited experience handling a firearm.

Thank you allingeneral. I do have limited experience but I'm gaining it every day. I've just bought my first firearm at the age of 54 and I want to make sure I belong in the category of safe and responsible gun owner.

Valley - I'm not familar with the range but just be aware that there is no qualification requirement in Va. There's many training classes out there that dont require quals.

Thanks Jim. I didn't think qualifying was a requirement, but I understand that PSS wants it's students to demonstrate they have gained a certain level of proficency (sp) in handling a weapon. I wonder how difficult it is to qualify.

The instructors are more concerned with how safely you can load, fire and unload a weapon then they are with accuracy. That's not to say that you won't have to put your shots on the paper, but you can work on accuracy after you've demonstrated that you've learned the basic skills in how to safely handle a firearm.

With that being said, if the general assembly overrides the governor's veto today, the internet based CHP training will once again be available.

The ranges in my area offer an NRA basic course that teaches the basic firearm training that a beginner should have,, THen the next class is the CHP class that covers the aspects of CC and a live fire excercise,, May want ask if they offer that introductory class if you are unsure of how to use the gun you;ve purchased, Any training that teaches you how to be safe when using firearms is good, Shooting yourself or possibly someone else accidentily is not something to take lightly .. I;m not trying to preach here< But get properly trained before using any gun!!!!!!!!
