Could it possibly be true or is this a ploy? Recall a couple of weeks ago there was a couple of small articles about ACORN re-coloring themselves and a name change...I smell a rat and bet they will resurrect themselves under a new disguise...

The liberal activist group ACORN is suffering from a steep loss of funding and will this weekend discuss plans to file for bankruptcy in a teleconference, the New York Times reported.

Officials from the group told the Times it is dealing with "mismanagement along with a severe loss of government and membership funds."

The group is reeling from a disbanding of at least 15 of its 30 state chapters while its large New York and California chapters have set up fresh organizations.

ACORN, or the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, describes itself as an advocate for low-income and minority home buyers and residents.

The group has come under fire over the past six months for videos showing some ACORN workers giving tax tips to conservative activists posing as a pimp and prostitute.

ACORN's financial situation and reputation went into free fall within days of the videos' release in September. Congress reacted by yanking ACORN's federal funding, private donors held back cash and scores of ACORN offices closed.

For years, ACORN could draw on 400,000 members to lobby for liberal causes, such as raising the minimum wage or adopting universal health care. Locally, its activists pushed city officials to fix broken street lights and it pressured banks to offer more favorable loans to low-income Americans. ACORN was arguably most successful at registering hundreds of thousands of low-income voters, though that mission was dogged by fraud allegations, including that some workers submitted forms signed by 'Mickey Mouse' or other cartoon characters.

Yup. Also recall the judge who ruled it "unconstitutional" to forbid them federal money...

Don't count them out yet..Bankruptcy is a way to protect what they have left while they reform their crooked little selves into another crooked entity that will be just as bad or worse.

Indeed and precisely my point...I bet they are scheming now to do just that. They file bankruptcy, declare the end of ACORN and the come back as something else. Any attempt from the right to bring out the truth will be poo-pooed and ignored by the sheeple.

Update: http://liveshots.blogs.foxnews.com/2010 ... corn-swap/
"This is a trick, a public relations trick," says Vadum, calling the move an attempt "to dupe Congress and the American people to think they have gone away and they have not." He says "the same people are running the new chapters that have sprung up and in some cases, out of the same offices."

Yup. If I were running acorn this is precisely what I would do. Most epsecially after a Judge ruled it unconstitutional for federal dollars to be witheld. Declare bankruptcy and scrub up a brand spanking new organization called something completely different, and head for congress with a wheelbarrow to carry the money in...

I still want to see where in the Constitution it says the government (We the people) have to give them at all. They need to be informed that contrary to what they've been told,no one owes them anything!!

If ACORN goes belly up, who will handle the door-to-door census work in urban areas?. They will morph into another "community action" organization and continue to carry out the Dear Leaders wishes.

Indeed. That's why they are filing "bankruptcy." Then when they reappear no one will believe its them. All the naysayers will merely say "you're wrong. this isnt acorn. they filed bankruptcy."

At that point in time even the left will scorn acorn to throw off the scent in favor of their new organization...
