Va reciprocity in Pa question.

Hello,
I am originally from Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh) and moved here (Roanoke) 3 years ago. I held a CCW in PA and now have a valid VA CCW.
I was looking over this website about carrying in PA:

It looks as though I need to apply for a out of state carry permit through this link? I had thought my VA CCW was all that was necessary, but I guess I need to apply and get this as well, correct?

The reason for having a CHP from multiple states is to cover yourself when you travel to a state that doesn't honor a VA permit. A PA permit would be good to have as well as one from Utah. That should cover you in most states.

It's my understanding that PA has reciprocity with VA. PA does have non-resident permits also. Maybe that's where the confusion is? Or am I wrong??
EDIT: I think I am wrong....hmm....there's another $26 bucks.

My understanding is that reciprocity means just that - a resident VA CHP covers you in Pennsylvania and a PA resident CHP covers you in Virginia.
You just have to be sure to understand the nuances in the state laws between the two states so that you don't run into problems from that angle.
Please read the actual reciprocity agreement between PA and VA at the following link, which reads, in pertinent part:
PA VA Reciprocity Agreement wrote:
1. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania shall give full faith and credit to a valid Concealed Handgun License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
3. Persons carrying a concealed firearm pursuant to this Memorandum of Agreement shall comply with all applicable concealed carry laws, rules and regulations of the respective states, including, but not limited to, age requirements and restrictions regarding the type of firearms that may be carried.

So why the need to send $26 and a copy of your concealed permit to the state? Perhaps for non-reciprocity states?
I'll have to read more over morning coffee or find a lawyer who is small enough to carry on my back.

You got it. I travel frequently to AL and FL. My VA permit covers NC and SC but not GA or AL. If you have a non-resident permit from PA its honored by GA. FL on the other hand only honors resident permits. To clarify, FL honors a VA permit but it must be a resident permit.
The Utah permit will add about 6 states to your VA permit. Heres a good link that gives a nice picture of reciprocity agreements between states.

So how easy is it to get a Utah non-resident permit? Why does Utah issue non-resident permits to VA Residents, when VA permits are honored in Utah? Just curious. Thanks,

Wow, my brain hurts....
Thanks to everyone for the helpful links.
I am about 99.9% sure that my VA CCW is valid in PA and there is no reason for me to apply for a PA non-resident CCW license. I think I may try and print off some of the laws and carry them in my glovebox, although not sure how that would go over with a police officer if I showed that to him if he was giving me a hard time over having a CCW out of state.
I do understand that my CCW is not valid in MD, and I would have to securely stow my pistol when crossing state lines, sadly my in-laws live in Baltimore and I would really like to carry there, bummer.
I do not get into PA as often as I would like to visit friends and family, my primary reason for asking was to carry when at my hunting cabin, which is so remote the chances of seeing anyone, especially a officer are slim to none, but ya never know!
One last question......
I have moved from the residence where I have my CCW permit from in VA, apartment to a house, same county, etc... just 10 minutes away. I have no yet changed my address on the CCW and was told by many people, including a firearms dealer that this was no necessary, to change it when it expires and not worry about it yet. What do you guys think?

Yep, Georgia, Alabama, Washington State, Wyoming and Minnesota.
The Utah permit is the permit to have. If you don't already have one, you may be the only one!

I understand that they do issue them. My questions is why do they allow VA residents to apply and issue to them a non-resident permit, when Utah already allows VA permit holders to carry in Utah with the VA permit?
Do not get me wrong, I like the idea and I also very well may apply for the benefit, but I was still curious of the reason behind it.

2 reasons:
1) $$$$$$$$
If a man who had a car load of food wanted to buy a hot dog from your hot dog cart, would you refuse him because he has a car load of food? Heck no, you'd sell it to him anyway.
2) Reciprocity - reciprocity agreements expire, end, change, etc. While Utah and Virginia may have reciprocity now, that may not always be the case.

I figured it was a bad paste job rather than a commentary on reciprocity laws.
One of the things I like about the link I posted is that it is additive. You can pick your home state and additionally pick non-resident states.
