Laminate or not to laminate? Is there any legal rules on laminating your CHP CARD. It is very flimsy..

I laminated mine, officially I think you are not supposed to but I did anyway. There was no way it was surviving my wallet otherwise.

The county clerk actually laminated mine for me.

Do any of you have one of those special wallets whith your CHP & the crazy "badge in it, like this:

Or is that just over the top? I know of a couple that have CHPs and do carry such a set up.

The reaction I was expecting. But the folks I know who have them swear by them. As in; "All I have to do is flash the badge and the encounter stops."

Of course, that statement begs SO many questions anyway.

Go "flashing a badge" in Virginia and you might end up in the custody of guys with the real thing. Besides, that says "CWP". Where's the Virginia version with "CHP"?

I think anyone that's thinking about carrying a "CWP badge" should read this first.

There is no law prohibiting it, so it's OK.

I copied mine and laminated the copy. The original has been put away for safe-keeping in the event that my dumb-a** loses the copy.

I don't recall a statute prohibiting that either. The copy's just as legible as the original and contains all of the same information. Therefor: valid.

I made a cople copies of mine, laminated the original and a copy which I keep in my range bag, in case I loose my wallet. You can get the lamination sheets at any office supply store. They are easy to use with an iron. But suggest you place it between a couple pieces of thin cardboard and on a hard surface. Or some of the office supply stores will do it for you.

I got mine laminated at Office Max. When I initially received it in the mail, inside the envelope was info on Virginia's gun laws and a note stating that laminating will help it to last for the whole 5 years.

As far as laminating it, that is fine. We actually offer this as a service at the gun shows for $2

As for the badge, bad idea. You are either going to get shot or arrested. And, if the badge has the Great Seal or the Lesser Seal of the Commonwealth on it as so many of them do, you have just committed a crime by displaying that.

Clerk told me to laminate mine after signing it too.

LAMINATED! Yep! Clerk told me the same thing when I filed my paperwork! "...don't forget to seal it!"

Actually, it was a fairly nice lamination job from Office Max on 360.

I did not even THINK about making copies! That's BRILLIANT!

Great catch ProShooter: my LEO friends say in some places around the country, this makes you an active target for individuals who believe you are law enforcement and that most officers would suspect you are attempting to impersonate an officer if they see something so "badge-like." No need to give away a concealed weapon with a flashy badge!!

Funny but when I picked up my CHP the first time (5 years ago), the clerk asked me if I want it laminated. I said "yes" and she laminated it for me...free of charge. It was not to be when I got my renewal so I went to Staples and had it laminated for $1.00.
