Another Yankee moving to VA-Hi ya all

HI To All from upstate NY
Finally Im outa here -again . I have lived in NC and Sc . I ended up back in Ny when My family talked us into staying because of my ageing parents , My parents were here untill dad passed on and mom moved to Alabama ..Now I can excape again.
Im 58 and this has to be the last move - so I have to do it right and pick the right place to live -So Ill be pestering you guys unmercififilly for info.
I have read most of the posts here and have seen the great welcomes you guys have offered to others - Makes me feel I made a good decision to pick Va.
Im A very poor Yankee-I own too many guns and Support conservitives in office -In fact I personally know My state senator and assemblyman and My congressman .Ill be one of the guys who goes to Richmond to lobby for gun rights as I have done here in NY..Unfortunatly UP State is Over run By Liberal Down state we will never have a chance to win so Im voting with my feet.
My Wife is a little Chinese gal and if someone happens to have a chinese wife I know she would love to talk to her Shes worried she wont be able to find a good job..
I cant wait to start packing !!

First, let me welcome you to Virginia. I have lived in Southern Virginia for the past 22 years now, having lived in Illinois, Missouri and Tennessee. Of all I prefer Virginia. BUT, I must correct something you said...you can NEVER own TOO MANY guns.

NOVA has a decent Asian population. My better half is Korean (and the most beautiful woman on the whole planet...
) But the only thing is NOVA is full of antis and liberals. I wouldnt recommend moving here unless you have too...
VA is a big place and lots of wide open spaces. Hope you and Ling find a nice place.

[ I have to agree with you about asian women and beauty and Im betting she looks 20 years younger than she is,,,,I know My wife does ] I am aware of the liberal bent to NOVA,,Id like to live as north as I can I fear the heat and humidity -However I suspect there is not alot of differance in the whole of the state except the coast.

I hope to be there this spring checking things out-The wife is in college and she graduates next dec. 4.0 GPA [ya can tell im proud of her ] shes in business classes ,, Where we will settle depends on where she finds a job that suits her she was a university teacher in china before I snatched her away. ME Im a welder[its too hot to weld in Va] sorta machinest and a mechanic in general I used to work On airport ground equipment at charlotte airport untill 9-11-01. Now im a Manager at a hardware store rental center. I also refuel Large jet transports.
I wont have to ask questions about your gun laws ..I have checked those out Va has good gun laws NOT perfict But tollerable and with the last election I see hope on the horison -Good job and hats off to you who worked so hard to defeat the antis last election.
I like Hi power shooting and Military style firearms are My favorites. I hope someday I can own enough land to build a 200yd range[then I can invite new friends to stop by for informal shooting matches]

Would you ever leave ? I see you have auto inspections ,helmet and Seatbelt laws GRRrrrrr! Thats one of the reasons I want to leave NY
Do you find the Police try to ballance the budget on the backs of motorests? writing tickes for Money [especially small Boss hogg Towns ]=we get that alot in NY the state is Bankrupt making it easy to become morrally bankrupt!
Easier said what things dont you like about VA?
I looked at Ky -Tn also But No economic prosperity-Besides Id like the VA area -Mountains One side Sea on the other Real people in between. Lots Of Hi tec business means Lots of intellegent people To get to know.

I am going on 16 years. Me and the wife got our place here after I retired. I came from New Jersey and I concider that a hell of a lot worse then New York as I was raised in New York for several year's. The people are the like anywhere else, No. For the most part they are real people here no phony bullshit just dpwn to earth people. Hell they even wave at you with a whole hand here as you drive by. I can't speak for the city's like Richmond or that size city as we live in the country where the air is clean and smoke from car's free. I would not trade it for the world. No the Law Enforcement people here are down right nice and not trying to fill the town bank account from local drivers. Oh did I mention that I am a retired Det. Seargeant from Atlantic City N.J. and I now have a son that work's for the same Dept. and a Daughter that work's for the Egg Harbor City Police Department in N.J. Trust me you will like it here and if you don't then you may want to ask yourself why and try to correct it.

Bill -- Im a 25 year fire fighter --Most of my friends are in Public service - Like your self. Ill get along Just fine !
Eagle 4 I will be checking out NOVA-- Do you think a mechanic can afford to live there Actually buy a nice home ?with land -- I hear thats a pricey place to buy a chunk of land big enough to shoot on !
