Hello Folks,

I just purchased a used 25-06 Ruger rifle form my brother in law, and I'm trying to clean the barrel. I purchased a cleaning kit and a bottle of Hoppes #9 and a bottle of Hoppes copper solvent. I've scrubbed the barrel with a brush and the #9 and ran patches through it, however they never came out clean. Then I ran the brush through with the copper solvent, ran patches through until I ran out, and the last on still came out dirty.

I'm thinking that I may need to purchase Wipe Out. Does anyone have any feedback on the Wipe Out, or any suggestions on how I can get this barrel clean? I think that the gun was fired and not cleaned afterwards and left neglected for a long time.

I would definitely recommend that you try Wipe Out on your barrel. But in the mean time, you need to use gun oil to remove the solvent from any surfaces you have cleaned. You should never leave solvent on any part of a gun for a prolonged period time. Use a few more patches with some gun oil before you put it away tonight.

Buy a bore snake.

Thanks for the quick response. I have Hoppes gun oil, and I'll definately follow that advice. I'll have to cut up some sheets to use for patches, because it's snowing here again, and I'm not going back out tonight!

Get a can of the foaming bore cleaner. I hear it works real well.
