Status of CHP App?

Is it possible to somehow get the status of a pending CHP application? I've applied for a non-res permit. My folks live in VA and it made sense to get it.

If it's anything like here in OK, you're just outta luck while waiting.

Thanks!

I can tell you that here in Virginia Beach, you just have to wait for the wheels of government to slowly grind away. Most people I've talked to say they are having to go back after 45 days to get their temporary permit because the real one isn't ready yet.

elcabob,

When I turned everything in, at the Spotsylvania County Courthouse, they told me that it should take about two weeks. I don't know if it's any different for residents or not but they were on the money. In exactly two weeks to the day, it was sitting in my mailbox.

I guess that doesn't really answer your question. I would just call and ask if there is anyway to find out. Hell, worst they can say is, no.

Good Luck

When I got my Pa. nonresident permit I mailed the paperwork in on a Tuesday and the permit was in my mailbox on Friday. That's right a 4 day turn around. I didn't think the mail was that fast.

The non resident apps are done by the State Police office and not by the localities. The people that run that office are usually quite professional and helpful. Just call, I helped a friend of mine with his non resident application and they were happy to provide information to him regarding the status of his application. His local police department had a tough time getting fingerprints that could be read by the FBI for the background check and the Virginia State Police office went out of their way to help him with that.

You can call the office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court where you filed your application. They should be able to tell you.

In some counties, there is a backlog. So the wait may be longer than 45 days.

You can't call a Court Clerk for a non-resident application since those go directly through the State Police. For a resident permit, you can contact the clerk at whatever jurisdiction you filed.

congrats

i know this is a little late for your situation but for anyone else that might see it

if you are an out of state resident and have not gotten a VA CHP i would reccomend applying for a UTAH CWP instead it will be accepted in a few more states that the VA CHP will be and will come out to just about the same cost. or get both and pick up a few extra states while you are at it
i should get mine within the week i hope.

the only thing you lose while being in VA with the utah CWP as opposed to the VA CHP has to do with carrying around schools

A Utah cwp holder is afforded all the same rights in virginia as a one gets if they have a VA CHP except for carry onto/arround educational places i.e. primary and secondary schools.
i can find links later when i get back into the country

I would be interested in seeing a cite for this regarding reciprocity with Utah. Will search a bit and see if I can find anything.

A Utah permit holder and a Virgina permit holder enjoy the exact same exemption regarding carrying on school property - the gun must stay concealed and you must stay in the vehicle, while in the parking lot, bus loop, etc....I'm lost as to what you are referring to. Please explain.

From the way it was described to me in my class a Utah permit holder is not even allowed on the property
