Walther PK380

My new toy.I just had to get one, it shoot's like a champ with never a burp or any type of jamb. Stocked with 90 grain Speer Gold Dot hollow point ammo with 8 in the mag and one up the spout I am ready to go.

Whats the deal with .380 ammo? I had a little .380 Jimenez which despite it's lack of quality was a nice shooting little gun.

Is ammo still as hard to find? I have not shopped for any since I sold that about a year ago.

Yep, .380 is still hard to come by. I lucked out and got 200 rounds of Winchester FMJ at the Nova Armament grand opening last weekend for a fair price. Other than that, I've seen a little bit at gun shows, but it's bringing premium prices - like almost $1.00 per round IIRC. ($45.00 for a box of 50 rounds)

Yes the Mauser HSC went in for trade.
This Walther fit's my hand LIKE A GLOVE, SURE IT IS A LITTLE BIT BIGGER THEN THE WIFE'S ppk/s BUT i ALSO HAVE BIGGER HAND'S THEN SHE HAS. It is dead on target at 50 yard's and has not missed a lick as far as feed or function is concerned with both my hand load's and factory loads.

As far as ammo, I make all of my own but have been known to buy some from time to time. While in N.J. last week I stoped at the place that I did all the gun repairs at for several years and they had several thousand round's of .380 ball ammo in CCI lawmen brand and several thousand rounds of .380 Speer Gold Dot 90 grain hollow point ammo. I did purchase a box of the gold dot's for carry ammo.

The Speer Gold Dot's were $37.00 and change
The Lawmen ball ammo was I think about $20.00

No it is not as small as a Ruger or many of the other ones out there, but damed if I don't like this handgun.

Just picked one of these up on Friday. It was calling to me from behind the class case. I haven't had a chance to take it to the range... that'll come sometime this week.

Hey Andy, behind the trigger on the grip there are 2 wing's that protrude from the grip. one on each side. I filed mine down as they were real uncomfortable to me and I along with my wife both like shooting the gun more now. Just something to keep in mind.

I have always been impressed by Walther quality...

& No comparing these two pistols, I can hold on to the Walther and hit something with it... I cannot hold on to the ruger, even with the pinky mag extension, i find it difficult, let alone for a follow up shot...and the sights are good for belly shots and covering fire...just my .02.

My only complaint so far is that .380 is unnecessarily expensive at the moment. Supply & Demand I guess.

Yep, that is why I have alway's reloaded. I keep about 600 to 700 rds. on hand loaded so that me and the wife can play anytime without paying out the butt for factory ammo.

Watch ammo to go. They get 90 gr FMJ $18/50 in once about every 3 weeks. It goes relatively quick.

Alright, I got it to the range today. I can't say my experience is as good as Bill's. Incidentally, I didn't notice any discomfort with the grip whatsoever. The PK380 just seems to fit my hand naturally.

I got about 30 rounds down range when I had 2 FTEs with my first mag of Prvi Partizan FMJ ammo. Ran a full 20 rounds of some JHP, then switched back to the International FMJ. Then it was one FTE after another. It wouldn't even manually eject cartridges if I racked the slide after an initial chambering. I think some crud got in the extractor, because after futzing with it the problem seemed to clear up and I was able to get another full 3 mags down range with no problems.

One of the things I did practice doing was shooting DA. Being accurate with that is difficult. Out of curiosity, is it safe to carry the PK380 cocked with the safety on? It seems it would be, but I want to see what others think.

Gonna take it home tonight and give it a good cleaning. Very nice shooter.

Yes it would be safe. I carry mine on half cock just like I did my 1911 A-1 with the safety off and you are just a short squeeze away from shooting. I have to think that the ammo was the problem with your FTE and or the gun getting mighty dirty with that ammo and causeing a builup in the chamber.

I disassembled it tonight and discovered it full of a gritty thick grease. No wonder I was having problems. Must have been some factory stuff to keep it rust-free on the trip over here from Germany. It's all cleaned up and lubed.

I also took some time to look at the wings above the grip. I see what you saying, Bill. They kinda stop your thumb from going higher toward the slide.

Hi guys i just purchased the Walther pk380. i want to know if the body styles on the P99, P22, and Pk380 are alike enough so that i could us my pk380 in a P99 hulster its a dedicated fobus roto hulster.
